I haven't gotten this down to a science yet as I've had the bike a week. I can say that with the Carb that puppy don't wanna stay lit if it hasn't warmed up just a bit.

Having a fuel injected bike is wonderful. I used to be able to take a nap waiting for my V-Star to warm up, now I just start 'er up and by the time I get my helmet and gloves on, she's ready to go!

I don't let it idle too long as I leave for work about 6:30 am, and towards the end of the riding season it's still pretty damn dark that early, worried about bitching from the neighbors. I generally walk it backwards out of the garage then flip it 180* and walk it to the end of the driveway. Fire her up, wait till the idle drops to 1000, and then baby it for the first few miles. No high throttle or quick acceleration. In about a mile I'm hitting the on ramp and I gently bring it up to highway speed. All in all it's about a minute or 2 from start up to rolling.

Always let mine warm up. When I see the shield defrosting, I know it's time to go.

Warm up is ambient temperature dependent. I fire the bike up, and then put on whatever extra clothes are going to keep me comfortable. If it's hot out...... fire up the bike, put on my sunglasses, and go. If it's cold..... fire up the bike, put on my chaps, jacket, and whatever else it will take to keep me comfortable, then go.

The theory is, the time it takes me to get ready is usually just about right for the bike to warm up, and get the oil flowing.

I look at the RPM too. When it gets around 1000-1100, I'm off. Even if I'm in a hurry, the light by my house is always red, so it warms up there, if not in the driveway.

My warm-up routine is to fire it up, put on my gear, wait for the idle to come down.

When the idle comes down I ride off, taking it easy for the first couple of miles.

After that, the green flag drops.

You know that State Farm commercial where the blonde chick says they cant put it on the internet if it isn't true, think about it.

"i heard that letting the bike warm for more than a minute or so will harm the engine do to the low oil pressure at idle"

Dumbest thing I have heard in a while
