I do the same as what has been mentioned. I but a bolt where the quick disconnect is not to make the bag nearly impossible to take and lock them. I then just carry in my bag liner and the small bag I carry on the rack. I only take in what I need. This gives me a quick load and go in the mornings.
My old bike the bags zipped off and was a pain putting them on and securing them each day, I would go back to that again.

I did not read all the posts, but I take the saddle bags off and bring them in, the main tour pack I have liner for, as well as the others, but I have heard that people steel the side bags. THe mother tour pack is harder to steel, so it stays, but the other come in the room with me. It is not that big of deal to unhook them so why not? I guess it might be over the top, but wht the hell, it only takes a minute or two. Rubber side down!
The whole reason I developed SaddlebagSecure was because I got tired of lugging the bags in at night when traveling. So you know my answer... And FYI - Brukus is currently offering free shipping and with the HDForum discount you can have peace of mind about your bags for $26.95. Cheap insurance. We also design and produce other securing products for your bike.
