Any ideas on this cable covering?-002.jpgAre there any covers or socks to go over this rough spot in the clutch cable? I thought about taking a hair dryer to it and trying to smooth it out but don't want to discolor it either. Anyone seen a braided sock or some other trinket to cover up this bad spot?

Don't have an answer about what you could use to cover up the area that got chewed up, but it looks like you don't have it routed correctly. It looks like you have a Road King and it looks as though the cable is running behind your bars and should be in front of them, then routed down to the p-clamp on the top left nacelle stud. Mine doesn't even come close to experiencing any abrasion near the handlebar clamp the way mine is routed. Not sure if I have more cable length to play with than you do, though.

an electronic shop will have heat shrink tubing- it comes in clear as well as colors.

it shrinks to about 50% so a piece that'll cover your cable will be large enough to slip over the ball end.

you shrink it by applying heat from a dryer, slowly and evenly

if you wanted a black nylon weave the product for that is "tech flex"- it is kinda like a chinese finger cuff- you push the weave on it's length and it opens up- you pull it out and it constricts. the ends are dressed by tucking back into itself

I put new bars on and this way works best for these bars. The damage is from me pulling it through the frame and where the P clamp used to be.

Hay man off topic for a sec. Get a one piece riser clamp. That two piece crap is dangerous. Had mine on my FHLX go bad while on a road trip. Nothing happened but it got worse as the trip went on.

have a look and make sure that your bars can go from full lock to full lock and not hang up or catch on anything.

we had a rider post last year about his new clutch cable hanging up and holding the bars to the left--- yes he crashed.

That sounds horrible, I know they go from lock to lock but will double check there is no chance of getting hung up on something. Thanks.

like if you turn hard left, can that loop get around the spot light, turn signal or that stud up top and get held there ?
