Ok guys I am going to start gathering up the parts to fix everything in the primary while I am in there. I know the compensator is bad. I figure I may as well get the IPB and install a Hayden M6 while I am in there. I have the compensator and Hayden numbers but can't find the IPB part # and the seal for it.
I plan on getting a service manual before I start this project next month but is there any other seals/gaskets I need other than the derby cover and primary gasket? I made a list of parts below feel free to add to it if necessary.
Any other advice on parts upgrades/fixes while I am in there? I am hoping to not be back in there for a while or atleast till the next service.
I also have a 2009 Street Glide & I would like to know a few things for self education please.
Compensator ( What is the replacement fix)
IPB (What is this)
Hayden M6 (What is this)
20 minutes after my last post my decision to get into the primary got accelerated by me getting stranded. Went to leave the gas station this morning and got the usual whirl whirl bang. No biggie just hit it again and it starts, wrong. Now the starter just free spins. Its an AllBalls clutch that only has a 1000 miles or so on it. So at lunch I get to try to go get it home, I have no trailer so im still not sure what I am going to do. I knew the compensator was bad but figured the worst that could happen till this winter was eat up another starter clutch and get the annoying grinding like before with the stock one. Guess I was right and wrong about it lol.
No real fix for the compensator other than putting a solid gear on that end, I have seen them but don't remember who makes it. For now though the most common repair is to install the SE compensator that now comes standard on bikes and is the only one available. They to have been failing but they tend to hold up better.
The IPB is the inner primary bearing, they are known to have issues and for another $50 in parts I figure I may as well get it while I have the outer primary cover off.
The Hayden M6 BT07 is a replacement primary chain tensioner that is supposed to be a better type of deal than the stock one that is a ratcheting type that doesn't let up once it tightens up and can potentially over tighten the primary chain.
