What product do you all recommend for removing oil, grease and grime from the engine area on my StreetGlide? I have a little bit of oil seepage near the oil filter and some more on the underbody of my bike. I have never used any of these products and I am wanting to use something that will NOT harm the black coating on the motor. I also most definitely do not want to ruin my chrome exhaust nor the chrome and aluminum throughout the engine areas.
I am having an oil change done on Saturday and want to get her all cleaned up afterwards!
Also what do you all recommend for overall detailing of paint?
I use Simply Green around the engine area. Follow the mixing instructions on the bottle! That stuff cleans the oil and road grime real well. I use car care products (car wash soap and waxes) on the rest of the bike. Every once in a while I spray some S100 Engine Bright spray on the powder coated parts of the engine.
I recommend S100 Total Cycle products. I can dilute their cleaner 50/50 with water and it still cleans great. It is safe for the other surfaces as well. I detail cars but I use other products for that. You have a lot of aluminum surfaces on bikes you don't have on cars and trucks so you have to be careful what products you choose.
Do not use simple green like the other guys are saying. I have heard many people ruin the alluminum on their bike by using it, even if you dilute it. Use motorcycle products not home cleaning products. I just ordered bike bright off of amazon and got a great deal. I paid 16 bucks for a 64 oz jug. I hear its better that s 100 for half the price.
I use Dawn dish washing soap cuts grease and oil residue, I put it in a spray bottle with some water and spray it on let it sit for a few and spray off.And it won't hurt aluminium.
