When I changed the bars on my 09 Ultra there was a little green plug from the TBW unit that attached to another wire that went down the handlebar into the fairing. I didn't have trouble with it but there were other people that had the plug come unplugged causing no throttle response. They make a TBW sending unit with a longer wire without a plug which would be better than the original.

Your unit may already have the longer wire but if not, that plug could cause the problem. Unfortunately, you'll have to pull the wires back and connect the plug and secure it so it doesn't happen again.

Yeah that is true. My CVO had the longer wire thank God because it came with internally wired bars but I have heard horror stories about that green plug!

Please check the individual grips too. With throttly by wire - I found out the hard way the grips are specific to R and L. If you look down into each one, you'll see the R side grip (throttle) has gear teeth down at the end to engage the TBW sensor. In case you didn't know.........
Good Luck -

Lots of good responses so far. I suppose I may only be confirming and summarizing:

1. TBW grips are side specific. If you look at the inside of each grip with a flashlight you'll see it. You have to turn the grip a few times till the splines join and the grip seats itself.

2. I've read MANY posts on here cursing the "green connector". Enough that I spent the money to buy the CVO TBW so I wouldn't have to fight with it. Not only does the green connector make it harder to wire your bars, but the connector can come unplugged causing you to have to pull the wires out and start over.

3. Also make sure you didn't forget to plug something in down by the radio.

Yea I've done three of these, real simple, if the little green connector is plugged in properly ( about 8 inches in to your bar) and the molex is wired properly and plugged in tightly under the fairing at the end of that same wire, the only thing left is the TBW gear on the end of the grip.

I ran into the same problem, replaced my bars and throttle was in limp mode. I pulled it apart again and cut the green connector out and soldered in some extensions, but still the same thing. I found a post on here that said the wires for the TBW are so thin that any amount of solder on them will provide just enough resistance to keep the TBW from working. I know some people have not had a problem with this, but I did. So, after some more research, i went out and bought the SE Road King TBW unit (pn 32310-08), put it all back together and worked fine. The SE unit eliminates the green plug and is even a bit longer, so no splicing.

Good Luck

Mike

Well we looked it over and yes the grips were on the right sides and what we did with the green connector was pulled it off and soldiered the wires together and the darn thing still doesn't work. While doing this we were both stunned and now my friend helping me has his brother coming over to check it out because he knows quite a bit about this. While looking at this and looking at my recently painted ember red fairing I found holding it up to gas tank the colors didn't match. The fairing was to pink. So now I have to take it back to my painter and have him start all over on this. So yes not a very good day and no luck.

Mike roughly how much is the TBW unit to replace all this. I was hoping to do this under a budget somewhat and now its looking less and less. Kind of frustrating, but atleast its winter and I can't ride it anyways
