Ditto. While some may think that running a good synthetic in the primary is a waste, I think it contributes to longer life of the chain and chain tensioner pad. If you are mechanically inclined this is no big deal to replace, but if you are not, the extra cost for synthetic will soon offset the labor cost to replace the tensioner pad more frequently.
It will also contribute to a slipping clutch once torque gets around 110.
Engine: Mobile 1 V-Twin 20W50; Primary and Transmission: HD Formula+. I ran Syn3 in all three holes on my 2009 SG since the first oil change up to last fall with 14K miles. Changed oil brands attempting to reduce engine and transmission noise. No real noticeable change with the engine, but the transmission is definitely less noisy and shifts easier with HD Formula+.

Reason: Grammar and additonal info.
Do not run motor oil in your trans. Reason; motor oil has very little zinc or phosphorous content these are the 2 components that you need for gear protection. Motor oils also have detergents to clean out the burnt deposits. Nothing burns in the transmission it does not need detergents.
I used Redline in my last bikes transmission, loved it, noticably quieter. Will be switching over when I get my 1k mile service done. I have no issues with SYN3 for the motor, and have yet to make up my mind on the primary. Used Redline in the last primary with no issues. But leaning towards Harley Formula +
He said I can run the same synthetic 20w-50 in all three.. Ups or Downs?
The only problem i have with this statement is what to use in the transmission. IMO, the tranny needs gear oil and Syn 20W50 is not gear oil. As many others, I run Redline Heavy Shockproof oil in my transmissions.
For all Redline users: I am planning to move to Mobil 1 20w-50 in my engine, Redline primary, and Redline V-Twin Transmission fluid with shockproof. It looks like they indicate that it is the same thing as the old shockproof. Is it? I can't find just "shockproof" gear oil. I was going to buy the Redline products at Cycle Gear. Any better suggestions?
