Default How to decide where to go?

This is mainly for you guys and gul who are constantly riding state to state and discovering new adventures.

How do you decide where to go? Is there a particular site that you visit which gives you ideas of where to visit? On a typical sunny day that you decide to ride, how do you come up with a destination?

My last bike was a Yamaha Roadstar which I used mainly around the area. I bought a SG because I really want to tour around and enjoy America. But honestly, I don't always want to just get on it and ride because I don't always want to end up where I've been before.

I'd love to hear about websites that provides destinations, espically by people in your area. Hope this makes sense. Thanks all!

Just get on Google and type in great rides in whatever state you may want to explore. Or great motorcycle rides in the us or a given region. That's what I've done. Over the years came across awesome riding in Arkansas, Tennessee, Florida, etc,,,

It depends a lot on what type of riding you like. I don't like a lot of traffic and I dont like twisties. I like wide open rides. I like wisconsin, michigan, dakotas, montana, wyoming, southern Canada, etc. thats my kind of ride
check out this site. a lot of info: http://byways.org/

I live in Ohio , and what I do is I take Ohio , West Virginia, Pa, Indiana, New York, maps and map out routes and write in a note pad the routes I want to take, I usually go between 200 to 400 miles in 1 day. once you decide on the route ,google will tell you all the neat places to see on your trip. Google will show you the county roads that a state map won,t show you. I hope this helps you. I usually take 3 guys with me and that say just go we will follow, I've taken the boys on some great trips.

National parks/monuments - Bike events - Museums - great roads - Points of interest...Google is your friend! Or get some maps and find the little twisty ones.

If it's hot, go north. If it's cool, go south.
I haven't figured out the east-west part of the equation yet. Flip a coin.
If you find yourself somewhere you've been before, go somewhere else.

Actually, I'd be interested in knowing about a web site like you describe too. I love reading about other people's adventures.

I live in WI, so any 200-500 mile trip is scenic. I don't have time to take a week off, but I would love to visit old friends in Phoenix, Charlotte, Mom in Florida.

There is something interesting in every town in USA. Throw a dart at the map and go.

first you have to decide how long you want to be gone. 1 day? a weekend? once you have that figured out, then figure how many miles you want to travel in one day. now you have an idea of what your traveling radius is. now break out your map, see what is in that radius and decide where you want to have lunch (or dinner), then head out that way.....

+1

Go visit your local state or adjoining state tourist information websites.

We have maps of wineries, cheese factories, rustic roads. You can print schedules for fairs, events, flea markets, etc.

We usually start out with, hmm, north, south and west. (East gets us damn wet!)

ALWAYS have an small overnight kit packed. She is awesome on that part.
