Wrestler, If you really want a GREAT sounding system for the money, do the S.s. Nano 520 D $125 shipped from savingslot.com., $130 to $140 from Amazon! Did you look in the audio systems forum! Take UtraNutz recommendation on the Polk 651's 2.7 ohms which will boost the rms power of the S.S. amp to 125 rms. Stay away from the J&M speakers (overpriced), small magnet, no specs on website, (gee wonder why). Polks $130 J&M $240. Stay away from Boom, not too many people are happy with them! Biketronics has a monster pair of 6x9's HAT's on their website that fit in the Harley lids, I got a pair for $300. If thats too expensive ask Nutz for a recommendation for your lids. The most important speakers are the ones in your fairing " they are in your face" Why pay for 2 R.F. when 1 S.S. is cheaper and has more power! Just my 2 cents!

Ultranutz do you agree with moto mike on the above comment? And can I run my fronts and rears with the nano amp he mentions? What do you recommend for my Harley bag lids? I already have the lids. Give me your recommendations for a complete setup with my stock head unit.

exwrestler.. I just had this same conversation just a few minutes ago on the phone with another forum member here. Same bike as you and looking for a good solid recommendation that won't break the bank. So here's what I suggest in your situation keeping in mind that the CVO lids are going to be the most expensive part of this system.

  • Sony DSX-S210 or 310 headunit - difference between the two is bluetooth only
  • Biketronics BT1002 retro radio kit to retain your handlebar controls and the ONLY adapter that will allow you to retain automatic volume control as you have now on your stock headunit.
  • Biketronics sony wiring harness (makes everything plug and play)
  • Biketronics splash guard
  • Cycle Sounds 6.5" speaker adapter rings for your fairing speakers
  • Polk Audio MM651 speakers for your fairing
  • CVO lid setup for your saddlebag speakers
  • Polk Audio MM691 6x9 speakers for saddlebag lids
  • Metra 824200 5x7 to 6x9 adapter rings for 6x9 speakers
  • Soundstream PN4.520d amp
  • 2 sets of shortest possible RCA jacks 18" is perfect
  • 6 ft of 8ga power wire
  • 1 small bag of polyfil (yep the stuff you find inside of pillows)
  • a LOT of patience. This is not something you're going to throw together in a matter of 2 hours. Not happening! More like 4 or 5 hours with the CVO lids. Take your time, do it right and you'll be amazed at what the outcome will be.

Im absolutely sure that the Polks are great - Ultra recommends them and he's an expert, I believe he was happy with the XTC's also, but yeah they are more $$. I went with the XTC's and am more than happy with them.
I too am interested in the "stay away from the cheap ****" comment - my set up is apparently "cheap" but in I cant fault it.
Should i want to swap out speakers one day, then I will try the polks (out of curiosity) but the Rokker XTC's have been great.. at least for my ears and isnt that what its all about?
just my $0.02

I have the lids already so that part is done. If I want to keep my stock radio I'm screwed with the setup you suggested above correct?

NOT AT ALL!

This was simply my recommendation for a killer system

drop the sony stuff
drop the biketronics bt1002, sony harness, splash guard

the SS amp has high level inputs so it will tie right into your stock headunit speaker wires. Only thing I would suggest is taking your bike to the dealer BEFORE you get started with this and let them flash your radio to allow for the operation of the fader control on it. They shouldn't charge you much if anything to do it.
