Default Upgrade my System?

I have a 2011 SG looking to upgrade my stereo system. If possible I want to keep my stock radio and I want to still use my handlebar controls. Please help me make the right choice because I want to do right the first time. I'm trying to decide on 2 channel or 4 channel amp or saddlebag speakers or fairing speakers. Thanks your comments will be appreciated.

all depends on how much you want to spend. I went with the J&M rokker xt's with a rf pbr300x2 and love the sound. its plenty loud at highway speeds. There are better and more powerful systems again it all comes down to $$$

My budget is probably around $1000 or so.

Wrestler, look in Harley tech forums, audio systems, a lot of good ideas there! Check out Ultranutz posts and systems. I went from Hog Tunes, to Arc to Sound Stream, (amps) S.S. good bang for the buck! Biketrinics website is worth a look also. Hope this helps! Rock On!

I went with the J & M Rokkers fairing speakers and 250 amp. I am pleased with the sound and volume capability. There may be better but I like their customer service and water proof, designed for motorcycles, 7.25" speakers.

I went with Polk MM651's front and rear, and a Soundstream PN4.520 Amp as recommended by forum member UltraNutz. My system is sick. And I retained the HK Head unit. In conversations with him he said if you think the system kicks now, wait until you decide to change your head unit to a Sony DSX 310. Then you really notice the difference. Just with the 4 speakers, amp, adapter rings, a package of poly fill, and a custom bracket made by another forum member I'm under the $600 mark I think. The Soundsteam amp is really nice. It's small, very powerful at 520 amps, it runs really cool, and is cheap. Think it was $109 at savinglots.com. The Polks I got from Sonicelectronix.

I tried small upgrades first then finally just did it. I spent right at a grand, including a Sony head unit. I think the head unit was the best upgrade. I bought the Biketronics module and my handlebar controls work just fine. I've heard louder bikes but mine works just fine.

There are tons of choices out there. Something like a 2 channel Arc amp and focal 6.5s in the fairing (check out dragonfly) is a good start. If ya don't mind losing room in the bags a good 4 channel amp and some 6X9s will add the missing bass and "fill" the sound. Ya can also sell your stock head unit for about what a good head unit and biketronices kit will cost for better options. I did my system from scratch (Kenwood head/biketronices kit/JL 4 channel amp/Two sets of JL C2 speakers) for right at $1000, so it is possible to get a decent system in your budget. Good luck!
