Default Speedometer sensor??

I have an 01 electra glide. speedo needle flopped around for a day or two then quit. cleaned off the sensor it's still not working. should the next logical step be to buy a new sensor? Is it the sensor that fails most of the time? or the speedo itself? hate to spend $60 for the sensor and find that is not the problem.

Common for sensor to get dirty, metal shavings, etc. I have a 2000 EG, mine did the same thing several years ago - recommend to replace not to clean, especially for $60.00. Good luck! If I remember right, you might have to remove starter for access.

The big give away if it's the sensor is that the auto cancel on your turn signals quits working as well. Part of what the sensor does is tell your turn signals to shut off once the tranny starts winding up. So, if your auto cancel stopped working along with your speedo, it's no doubt the sensor. The sensor itsellf is a breeze to change, it's getting the damn wire routed like it should be that's a bit of a pain in the ***.
