I have the HD pull back touring bars and they work.. it is an improvement over stock i will say that... up 2" and back the angle to make them 2" closer...way more comfortable than stock...i am trying apes just because... Well i like the loks and the comfort is said to be good...I think the first thing to do is address the seat and pegs, after that a backrest then the bars....I haven't rode with apes for distance so i am clueless if it will help or not. I was gonna have the inner fairing out anyway so why the hell not...i am planning on keeping the old girl a long time as i just got it broken in at 75000 miles...I think it's a good investment.. I have a set of HD pullbacks i might sell if these 12" apes don't work out.
FYI the HD Pullbacks are very much like stock bars that someone bent back toward the driver. The wrist angle is extreme, like pushing a wheelbarrow. If that doesn't bother you, disregard...
Thanks for info, have not put my hands on them. Do you have some pics of your bars, from what I can tell they look nice.
The rider back rest is worth it's weight in gold! You won't believe the difference in rider comfort!
For sure get the adjustable one, not the fixed one! I've had both and the fixed one sucks. To be able to adjust it while underway makes all the difference. If you ride two up, you'll likely pull it off. Its too hard for your passenger to work around it. But for solo riding I would call it indispensible!!
Try this: Put your bike in a chock or have someone hold it so you can sit on it as if you were riding down the road. Close your eyes and hold your hands out to where they feel comfortable to you then open your eye and look where your hands are. Take note of how high your hands are, how spread apart they are and the angle of your wrists. That will be the measurement of your bars. More than likely you are going to be surprised with what you come up with.
That's EXACTLY what I did and wound up at a position close to the KW Ergo Backs and LA Chopper PrimeApes. Got the LA's, tipped them back just a bit and couldn't be happier. This is the perfect way to see what your body likes. My lower neck is thanking me evey time I go out now.
