I have the Reinhart 3.5 true duals on my 08 SG. I don't ride it across the country but i ride most weekends. I love the note. When my wife and I take our yearly week trip they are easy to put up with. On the other hand, if I were to run a week with the boys I might pack the ear plugs. I'm still happy with them and would do it all over again.
The tone of a sound (especially exhaust notes) that is pleasing to each individual is a very subjective matter....
I have only had 2 sets of 3.5 Rush... one set with 2" and this set with 2.25".. with 2" (with no packing) was loud enough to be heard (especially when you got on it) but was actually not that loud at cruising RPM... With the 2.25, (and no packing) it is significantly louder and deeper.(better sound too).. Has a good rumble, decent at cruise rpm, can still hear radio well, but have a little bit of a baffled "Drag pipe" sound when getting on it. (to me)
The Rineharts .... I have a buddy with the 4" with 2.25 baffles...when he gets on it, TO ME, his have a slightly "hollow rasp" is the best way I can describe it compared to the Rush I have had... The 3.5 Rineharts I have heard are decent at crusing but have an annoying loud rasp when the rider would get on it... Seems the guys that designed them like a couple of hertz higher frequency sound than I do......
There again... it's ALLLLLLLLL subjective to the individual...... this is just my 2 cents.
I have 4' Rineharts w/o cat on my 2010 Ultra. I might add that I have had to take medication for years to prevent migranes. I have had no problems with the Rhineharts, very pleasing to my ears.I have taken 2,000 mile road trips with no aggravation to my ears or head. My riding buddies have the 3.5 Rhineharts and I can definately tell they have the louder crackle.
3.5 Rino's for me. Liked em' so much I bought another set that was on sale.
Don't know if I'll ever need em', but I got another set.
Don't care for the "mellow sound."
Friend of mine has a Tri Glide with gutted cat, SE Air Cleaner, and Rush 2.25's. Wife has a Tri Glide with gutted cat, SE air cleaner and 3.5 Rineharts. Both have a pleasing sound. Neither is too loud to ride behind or hear the stereo, but both can be heard when you get on it.
Seems like I like the sound of one better one day, and the other better the next time I hear them together.
Personally, I would be happy with either one. The Rush's are about 100 cheaper if I remember correctly.
Rush down to Eastern Performance, JP Cycles, DennisKirk and buy a set of 4" Rinehart slip-ons, you won't regret it. The 3.5" IMO are obnoxioussly loud and I never want to follow behind anyone that's got them. As posted above the sound is subjective and I feel the same way about Fat Cats and Thunderheaders.
