+1 on JJHog... I'd go for the boot modification and keep it a comfortable ride if you do two-up riding...gotta keep mom happy...otherwise do what you want.
I kept the stock shocks, and sent my stock seat to Mean City Cycles. I had them do their "Super Narrow". F'n awesome! I can now stand and get my *** off the seat, big difference. I'm 5'7" and needed to get my feet on the ground a bit more. I rode about 1800 miles on it so far and have no problems, and very comfortable. I bought the super reduced reach seat, but could not get used to it.
I found that a good custom seat is the best bang for bucks, keeps the ride smooth and you can get pretty low in the seat, narrow and lower with some good padding.
Trimmed my seat at Mean City Cycles and added to my boots. It was enough for me. I wanted to avoid changing the ride. A friend had a different solution. Installed air shocks that raise and lower the bike while riding. He hits a button to lower it when stopping and puts it back up at speed.
