My choices in order. Now i will tell you i have a Commander II on the back of the bike now butonly have about 500 miles it runs like any new tire i have had on the back...Great because it's new....

#1 Elite III about 11000 miles (with the correct pressure they don't cup)
#2 Commander (first kind) about 10500 miles Smooth throughout
#3 D402 about 10000 miles decent smoothness but cupped, followed grooves and tar snakes bad
#4 Avon Venom X...One of the smoothest but only got about 6000 miles
#5 Pirelli Night Dragon...the SMOOTHEST thoughought by far but the shortestmlife...about 5000 miles and shot....
Ekite II K591...just like the d402 with white letters...was in a bind... did ok but looked like crap...
I am curious about the life of the current tire (commander II ) and the ME888 ...and the Avon Cobra...

I have 75000 miles on the bike and i am on my 10th or 11th tire and i have never experience and adverse effects in the rain or the hard twisty riding in the hills...
The Elite III was probably the hardest i have had on the bike and pushed it the hardest in my trips and never felt like it was gonna break loose or anything like that....I am not gonna comprimise mileage just to think that a softer tire is more sticky anymore because it just ends up costing me twice as much.
With that said, it's your bike , your money, your choice...

Somebody mentioned the Continental... I would beware of tires that are below 73 or 74 weight raiting....The older bikes were lighter and could use these but the weight of the bike has increased...You probably would be ok running them but why chance it to save avout $30

Good luck

Anything probably will last longer than a Shinko...
