Just my
I've lived in Southern Cali for all of my life and been riding for over 20 years, street bikes and now a 09 SG. I got a ticket on my street bike in the early 90's for excessive noise with my STOCK exhaust. Fought it and won. Cop was just being an a-hole. My SG now has Dresser Duals and CFR's. I respect everyone so I make sure I don't rap my throttle to disturb my neighbors or attract unecessary attention. Never been ticketed for loud exhaust and If I do get a ticket, luckily I have several Cop buddies that can easily write it off. As what other guys stated on here, if you don't act like an a-hole, then Cops won't trip.
Ride Safe!!!
Peace
commifornia, I am sorry for the ones who live in such a beautiful state that has such a concentration of liberals. what are the hells angels and the like going to do? get stock exhausts for their bikes?
I would move to a place where you nstill have a little freedom like can own a decent gun collection with 100 round magazines, loud pipes and believe in God. pitiful state.
Last I checked, GA (and many other states) don't allow handlebars to be more than 15" above the seat -- which makes many (if not most) bars illegal. Another dumb law that's probably not enforced. SJ Ron
God Bless Texas. Although I did see some cows covering their ears when I left this afternoon. I told them if they don't like it they can moooove to Cali. (For all you SO Cal City Boys cows say moo so that was a funny).

This thread is killing me! Wife and I discuss TX vs. CA every single night (and have since I decided to retire from the military and start a new life - retired 01OCT2012, 24 years!). I was stationed in TX (Ingleside) for two years and we absolutely fell in love with the people (genuine, right priorities, etc) and the state (free, good economic sense, limited regulation, state pride bordering on something from Hitler's playbook on Nationalism - I mean that as a positive). Hell, LAST NIGHT (date night), the wife was saying, "Screw CA, let's go back to TX." She is from CA, and has a big/close family spread all over the state....yet wants to go to TX. I am a nomad. Been on my own since 13 and I'm 43, so I'll go anywhere. This thread just fuels the fire!
CA been that way for years on muscle cars... Problem is they can get out of state bikers passing through. Several HD shops told me they don't install non EPA pipes last year when I went on a HOG ride in CA.
Personally, I went through the loud pipe stage, but it got old. I put Bub7 Stealth EPA mufflers on my RGU. After a few hundred miles I still can hear Still 2x louder than stock and a deep tone.
The 120R in the Dyna was another story, went through 3 setups before I didn't need ear plugs. The problem was every time I jumped on it every cop with in 3 miles knew. I don't like the dirty looks from LEO's as I putted by. Better NOT to draw attention because I really don't think loud pipes save lives. The main threat is the people in front of you (left turns) or switching lanes. Even with loud pipes on the FWY they didn't hear me until I was beside them, but they sound cool in a tunnel
Were has everyone been? It has been Federal law since 1978 that the exhaust system can not be modified. It must be OEM. They only enforced it on car dealers and muffler shops. Ten grand fine per unit. Government didn't have any enforcement arm to go after bikes.
Now that many states are doing their own EPA regulations they are reaching down to the little guy.
