A considerate experienced rider can make a bike with straight pipes quieter than a flaming douche bag with a stock bike can be! I'm not really too concerned with it here in central MO. Like another poster stated theres idiots running around here with no DPF systems or mufflers on their diesel trucks blowing enough black smoke out to completely shut down intersections for a good 20 seconds! Unfortunately I work at a performance/accessory shop and get paid to install exhaust and tuners on vehicles that cause them to do this. I usually bitch at the boss the whole time, every time!
I would move to a place where you nstill have a little freedom like can own a decent gun collection with 100 round magazines, loud pipes and believe in God. pitiful state.
Yea folks like you always say chit like that until u actually get to live in a place like that. Well guess what buddy? Most places like that on this planet dont like your kind and I bet you wouldn't make it more than a few days before someone snatched you up took your bike and gun and magazine clip and shoved all three up your azz...literally. At that point is when you will be crying for the same crappy u.s. govt that you so proudly bitch about. ONLY in America are you able to cry about half the chit you do. Appreciate it for what it is and be proud for what it isnt and always believe that it could be worse than it really is. Remember, england couldve won and we wouldn't have harleys to come on here to talk about.
I love the state of California, beautiful coastline, mountains, desert...too bad it's being ruined by big brother. I lived in So Cal for 6 years and loved it.
No we didn't. The original bill also called for Smog Checking bikes (like AZ has been doing for years BTW). With strong lobbying from ABATE and with the Bureau of Automotive Repair stating that tamper inspections on motorcycles would be a logistical nightmare, the smog check provision was removed. The noise provision was watered down to only allow enforcement as a secondary violation. Get your facts straight.
Every time you expect different results from the same morons you just re-elected, you're letting it happen. Then, you compromise with some kind of 'watered down' noise regs?
What facts didn't I get straight?

Let em vent this is 'Merica! I served 6 years in the US Army protecting yours, and his, right to **** and moan. You don't have to agree with it, just respect the fact that you both CAN! Happy riding!
A fix it ticket with a maximum penalty of $100.00 is not much of a revenue generator.
A few cops told me after 3 fix it tix for the same offense, is no longer a fixit tix. Its a chargeable moving violation and the previous signed off tix have an impact on the fine you will get! So anyone with a CDL beware.
I agree with Ultranutz. Motorcycles have "Always" gotten a bad rap & not just about loud pipes. At least they aren't doing smog checks, "YET". The politicians have there head up there A**!!!! Just my 2 cents. HD does have some EPA mufflers.
Send you pipes into American Custom, they will drill them out and weld in a flange so you can attach one of their baffles. Get the mid range baffles, you can drill those out to your liking, they can be louder and still be legal with the stamp.
By the way, in every state I have been in within recent memory, all the cops have aftermarket exhaust of some type, all much louder than stock. Is that how it is in California? Is the noise law just for us or do the cops live by it too?
From 2008.
Civilians are usually the ones getting attention for loud motorcycle exhausts, but this time the San Francisco Chronicle reports that the Oakland Police Department-- AKA "Rolling Thunder"-- has re-installed noisy aftermarket pipes onto their fleet of Harley-Davidsons. According to the article, safety concerns spread among the department three months ago when an officer riding with stock pipes was struck by a motorist who claims he didn't hear him coming. The new pipes produce an average of 93 decibels.
MIC spokesman Mike Mount is quoted as saying, "We encourage all motorcycle riders to keep the original low sound levels that meet the ... federal sound limit of 80 decibels." He adds that "It would seem counterintuitive that a law enforcement agency would go against federal standards." Especially considering that recent laws have been clamping down on loud bike exhausts, the Oakland PD's attitude seems to suggest that they are above law, or perhaps that they know something that non law-enforcement types don't.
Are the Oakland PD's loud aftermarket pipes justified, or is this a case of law officers taking advantage of their positions of power? Do you think loud pipes will save officer's lives?

That the MC community in CA and on this forum didn't just let it happen. First of all we (the MC community didn't elect these idiots). The non-gear-head liberal left Bay Area environmental, global warming, Greenpeace feel good idiots did (and yes there are a lot of them here).
When Gray Davis was kicked out of office they put in a bad actor (Republican) who promised everything and delivered nothing but favors to the Democrats. He actually was caught riding his own Harley without a MC endorsement and wasn't ticketed.
The bill was rigorously opposed by ABATE, BOLT and even the AMA. The Smog Check provision was opposed (behind closed doors) by the very agency that would have realized the most revenue out of the deal. I know. I was there at the implementation meetings between CARB, BAR and DMV (should the bill have passed intact). We owe ABATE a huge thanks for their role in opposing the bill.
Sometimes in a Representative Democracy we just don't get what we want no matter how hard we try. That's just life.
Your blanket statement is no different than someone from Arizona saying that all of you Morons in Washington stood by did nothing to prevent Obama from getting get elected (twice) because he and every other democratic candidate won Washington State in every election since 1984.
