Headin' on up to the "Big City" (Phoenix/Scottsdale) weekend after next for AZ Bike Week for the 1st time. Any recommendations for "must see" or "must do" while we're up there?
Any particular things or places to steer clear of? thx for the feedback!
If your wanting to ride every day they have scheduled poker runs all over place. The party at WestWorld is basically a big field with lots of vendors and a pretty big party tent with all kinds of alcohol. They also have bike test runs you can sign up for but bring a helmet. Never done one of em before? plan to bazooka up to Laughlin at the end of the month, it will be 10x as crazy as the one round here. If you haven't been up there, it's a gotta go at least one time. Don't think your going to be able to get a room if you haven't already booked. We are staying in Kingman and driving in and may be able to get a room there.
the Phoenix based Cyclerides.com has a great "dayrides" section- you can look at the description, pics and maps and decide what you'd like, how long/far etc.
The "bike week" dirt lot with vendors does little for me, but there are some events with music etc which are fun. Again, cyclerides is good for info on local events as is the bike week website.
for visitors, drink plenty of fluids, cover up from the sun.
A bud and I are trailering to Amarillo TX next Friday night, headin for Albuquerque NM on Saturday, and plan on spending the next 5-7 days tearin around NM and AZ.
Any good roads, sights recommended?
We figured we would check with the locals and do a loop from NM to Flagstaff, to Phoenix, to Tucson, to Las Cruces, to Roswell, and back to Amarillo.
I assume we can stay off the highways and take backroads that parallel the highways?
Not trying to hijack the thread, just appears to be alot of locals posting.
