I'm glad you and the wife are OK. The lip will heal and the bike will get fixed. Enjoy the scar. Here's hoping the rest of your riding days are trouble free.
Glad you're ok. I'd be pissed too about the cavalier attitude of the Leo. Make sure you talk to the chief but keep it to the accident and don't bitch about speed traps or whatever else so he can stay on track with the issue.
Even if she had her turn signal on, she needs to yield to YOU. It's like they're really trying to kill us...
"Damned cagers" is right!********* I was knocked down by a left turnin' Arkansas soccer mom on 10-15-01. Totaled out a '97 Ultra and broke my left leg, collar bone, right foot and four ribs. Was in rehab for 8 months, and am still in pain every damend day! *****Her insurance co. tried every trick in the book to screw me over. FINALLY got a motorcycle injury law firm on the case, and two years later, they paid the maximum amount! ***** Any way ya look at it, when you are in a crash, you lose.
I truly am glad the only injury that resulted from this was relatively minor and both of you weren't hurt worse.
Having said that I know that when I ride through a situation such as the one you described (cars lining both sides of the road, people walking around and such) I slow WAY down and expect pretty much anything to happen.
Hope you get all that you you deserve out of her insurance company and your bike is perfect when you get it back. I also hope that the rest of your riding days go well and accident free.
One last thing you may consider outside of the repair costs for the bike is being reimbursed for the decreased value of your bike because it was in an accident.
All the acuary tables are factored into this "Insurance division" in the game of life. Yep, our rates reflect the payouts insurance companies reflect (plus thier heafty profit margins). I get it. That's why I pay my premiums on time....and also why I carry plenty of liability coverage. I know the rules. It's for that exact reason I suggest not sitting back like a boob and allowing an underwriter to screw me so he can get a pat on the back by his boss, and maybe a little bonus to boot.
Every game has its rules, reff's, penelties, and fine points. In this situation, a lawyer is sort of a highly paid coach. The OP took a shot to the head, might need plastic surgery. It's hard to look into the future and see what might be needed after a puny settlement check is cashed.
Just like the professional athlete prepairs for a contest by stacking as many chips on his side before the game begins...by studying game films, getting good sleep and nutrition, and listening to any pointers and suggestions by his coach and training staff have to offer, a fella facing a Insurance company should be ready to battle for all he can get.......
I'm not saying pick up a pait of cruches and fake a injury. Those people are no better then any other crook that feeds on society. I'm saying think about the variables, protect yourselve against worse case senerios, and if necessary seek councle for a professional's opinion before rolling over like a good doggie and having your nose rubbed in it.
Look, what you do if this ever happens to you is of no concern of mine. And don't worry about me is a kid slips in my yard, or God forbid someday I get my own head up my keester and am at fault in a wreak of my own. I'm financially covered. As far as Karma, I sleep real good.
I agree with this, I think. I'm just a bit testy after forking out 2 bills for my personal liability coverage for the next 12 months. Have a safe ride, Montana.
OP: this is 2013, not 1993 - you can post a Google Map link to where this happened and put a lot of this "you are at fault" BS to rest. Street View will plainly show the space and lane width you are talking about.
Can't believe some of you guys are slagging Sagido over this. WTF is wrong with you people? This guy just finished posting how proud he was to get his new Anniversary Limited, decides to head out on a nice ride with his lady, and now he's had this bull$hit mishap because some dumb broad was trying to find a place to park to pick up her kid from school and U-turned in front of him without checking. Guess she should be happy he wasn't driving a dump truck or little Johnny wouldn't have a mommy to go home with ever again. The last thing anybody in this bad situation needs to hear is some blowhard saying they were in the wrong, keep that $hit to yourself. Hope the lip heals up okay Bro, you get treated fairly by the insurance co., and that you aren't put off by the comments of a few dingbats on here. They sure as hell don't speak for all of us!
Couldn't agree more!!!
Something similar happened to me last year and I took **** from some of the members for trying to save my bike, my wife and my life for doing the only thing I could do at the time for someone else's F-Up.
glad to hear you & the Mrs. are OK, it could have been way worse.
Thanks for sharing your story. I hope everything works out to your satisfaction with the cager's insurance and your bike ends up being better than new. The scar- well hell, that's just a conversation starter in the future!
Seriously though- I hope you heal up OK.
As for cagers- I always try to ride with the mindset that each & every one of the miserable MF'rs are purposefully out there on a mission to punch my ticket. I try to not let my guard down or assume they are going to do the right thing.
My outlook is that they are probably going to take the most F'd up maneuver possible in front of me and try to ride accordingly.
