Default Price on Ultra

I am looking at a used 05 Ultra 5K miles and stock. What is a fair price? Do the full dressers hold their value?
I have a 02 RK Classic with 2-3K in extras and 6500 miles whats its market value?
I have looked at NADA - not all that helpful.
Thanks

On the stock 05 Ultra-I would see what a brand new one would cost with a full 2 year warranty and then offer $2,000 less. On the 02 RK, it's harder as 3K in extras might mean a lot to one person and nothing to another as our tastes our different. You should get at least 15K on your RK if you sell it outright but I would guess only around 12,500 on a trade. These our just my opinions and nothing scientific.

2005 Ultra 2 tone, FI 20,405, shipping is 270, security system 275. So a new Ultra is around 21,000. I would pay a few dollars more for a new one instead of the used if ther is not that much difference.

As far as holding value, my guess is pretty well. In our area at least, the Classics and Ultras are the one's that are sold in advance, or immediately after they hit the showroom floor. This past year I don't remember either on the showroom floor that wasn't already sold.

Regards,

Bill

Here's the list prices on the 05 bikes, I would say if it is stock you could knock a bit off , but prices are usually higher than it is worth in most cases.

I'm not sure who mentioned it but for the difference I'd just buy a new one. Well that is unless the dude selling the 05 is selling it at a bargain basement price. 05 probably goes for around 22k in my area new. Deduct for the 5k miles and your probably still looking at an asking price of around 19k...

As for your RK? If you sell it outright you'll get around 14-15k... Dealers gonna give you around 10-11k...

Personally unless you just have to have the Ultra I'd stick with what you own. Pick yourself up one of those new fairings for RK's and pretend, lol... Seriously I saw one the other day didn't look bad and the dude had a nice stereo setup as well.

Good luck with your shopping

The Ultra turns out to be a 04 rather than a 05 and the asking price is $17,500

Then I guess it would depend on your finances, wish list, etc... $17500 seems like a good price if you gotta have the Ultra. Brand new Classic is $19680 here. Now mind you it doesn't have the rear speakers, lol... Its just dependent on what your looking for in a bike. My brother owns a Ultra, I own a Road Glide. He has a few extra toys from the factory. He paid 22k, I paid 12k (mine has around 6k in add ons that were on the bike when I bought it). His bike had "0" miles when he bought it, mine had "1600." His bike now has 10k on the odo and mine has 22k (he's had his a year longer, lol). His is shinier, cleaner, better kept. Mine gets ridden, allot...

If you really want the Ultra you'll talk yourself into justifying it. Personally I'd spend 2k more and get the new Classic, but your the one who is footing the bill and has to be happy with the purchase. Actually I'd probably stick with the RK simply because you own it and the mileage is still very low. JMO...

You have gotten good advice above, I agree that personally I would go with the new one and sell the old bike outright, like previously said. You will have a new bike, 2 year warranty, the latest upgrades, and that, special feeling when you hear the bell and head her for the house for the first time, for not much more money. Good luck on which decision you make.

Just out of curiosity...what would you say is the best month to buy a used bike? My guess is that it would prob. be somewhere between Nov - Feb. I could guess Jan. since it's after Christmas and the weather is still crappy in much of the country, but then people are starting to get tax refunds by the end of the month or in Feb. I also might guess Nov. since people might not want to be sitting on them all winter. What's your guess (or factual knowledge if you have amy)?
Enquiring minds want to know... Art

Art, if your talking used bikes your real close, its actually October. New bikes are arriving and it costs the dealer to have the used bike sitting on the floor. Well at least thats true in the Northern states. Now, new bikes its generally around August. Why August? New bikes are now released so any bike on the dealer floor is 1 year old for all intents and purposes, even if it doesn't have a mile. Drive it off the floor and its now depreciated as though you've owned it a year. Good rule of thumb is that any new bike purchsed in August should have had 2k knocked off the sticker before any bargaining begins.

Couple hints for bike buying:
Know what you are willing to pay up front and DO NOT budge from that price. I'm talking tax, titled, tagged out the door price.
Do not negotiate. Once you start your gonna get ripped off. This is my price for **** bike can you do this? If they start to dance, repeat can you do this? If they start to dance again ask for their business card, write your name and phone number on it, hand it back and simply say "when your ready to sell me that bike call, I don't negotiate." then walk out the door. Been my experience you never make it out the door, they call you back.
If your trading know what you want for your bike (be reasonable) and again don't budge. I always pad my figure by $500 to give the sales guy some room.

This is VERY important!!!! Make sure you work out all figures on paper before you go to the dealership. Then you have a reference if something looks a little off in the figures the dealer presents you with. Then make sure that all figures on the sales paperwork are exactly as they should be. Don't let them do things like show a higher trade and jack up the sales price an equal amount, etc.... You will get scammed every time, paying more than you agreed if they are allowed to do this. Your playing in their yard on the paperwork, don't give them homefield advantage.

Finally shop around. You can often save thousands of dollars if your willing to drive a few hours or to a different state to purchase a bike.
Hope this helps......
