Default Burning rubber!

Sorry for the attention getter, but burning rubber is what I smell.

Let me explain. I have an 06 FLTH stock motor V&H 2-1 exhaust and powercommander basically it as far as "performance" mods...

I have recently put a low profile front fender on, and also just changed the oil.

When I was 2up riding on the highway the other day we kept smelling burning tires, but I just figured it was a "scent of the road"...

Next day while 1up I smelled it more, and I was the only one on the highway. I also noticed the bike has less power and the voltage gauge is up around 15v.

Then I saw a puff of smoke coming somewhere from the front of the engine.

So me thinkings it could be a couple things...
I checked fender clearance...good.
I looked for oil leaks around oil filter...none
I checked to see if I overfilled the oil... Nope
I felt if the voltage regulator was hot... Normal

I can get it to smoke now on command... Basically it only does it at higher RPM's and at a higher throttle position or say in top gear slightly lugging and you crack open the throttle. Another thing is it has trouble getting over 80mph (closed course or course )

Any thoughts? and thanks in advance...

You might have some wires touching somewhere. Have you looked for any exposed wire?

I did a quick look, but I am not sure why it is intermittent. wind pushing them together? I never saw wires shoot smoke like that.

Well with the wires, sometimes the wire wont have as much power going through them and you wont even be able to tell. As soon as you hit the throttle and there is a surge of power, they start arcing like crazy. I had that problem with my fatboy and ended up having to go in behind the headlight where all of the wiring harnesses were and found the short. I would smell the burning wires but not sure if there was any smoke or not. sorry :/

Maybe an exhaust header leak at the head. A leaking head gasket. The front plug wire laying on the head.

Well, with low profile fenders, you have to be aware that the faster you go, the larger your tires become. Centrifigal force doing its thing you know. I'd increase the clearance on your new fender and give that a try.

burning wires do not smell like rubber...
Look VERY carefully at your front tire.
