Ear plugs? Why yes!
I use the foam disposable, tossed at the end of each ride/day. Different sizes, lengths, got to find which fits and works for you. As others have said, roll 'em up small, reach behind your head and pull up and back to straighten the ear canal, push in the ear careful not to fold 'em - if you do, start over. When done correctly, you will slowly hear and feel them expand and everything gets quieter.
I sometimes go for short rides without them, but for much distance it's part of my pre-ride must do. I use them with the mowers, weed wacker, whatever.
On the bike, it's nice to not deal with the wind noise. It's just so much more comfortable when you get used to it.

I agree totally with you about being able to hear tunes and pipes better.

I use ear plugs all the time. I work around excessive noise (turbine compressors) and my hearing is tested twice a year. I wear gloves, safety glasses and, hearing protection doing many tasks. I often feel odd without them. I did notice a little dizziness after riding without them for about an hour one day last week (peer pressure) and some ringing so, won't be doing that again. I have noticed that a half helmet with ear flaps seems to funnel the wind into my ears making the wind noise louder. For me, it is the wind noise and nothing to do with the pipes.

the little orange foam plugs are cheap and you can just treat em like they are disposable if you like. Buy 100 and see if you are hooked by the end of the bag.

An absolute must for me. Between the FMF pipe on the 25R and Reinharts on the EGC it's a huge difference. I want to hear my kids sneaking out when i'm older, or someone sneaking in now.

Side benefit - i can hear my music and engine better.

I got the custom mold ones at the last motorcycle show - two pair. One for bike, other for backup and range bag.

But i definitely respect those who choose not to wear them (both my brothers) - to each their own and it's their choice! Good to see so many like minds here.

I wear them on rides where I leave town. I already wear hearing aids, I have to preserve what I have left.
