Default Stock Security System Problem

My security system is locking me out of the bike on rare occasions. To fix it I just turn the bike back off and wait 10 seconds then turn it back on. The bike always starts the second time.

I carry the FOB in the trunk. Put new batteries in both FOBS every year. It doesn't make any difference what FOB I have in the trunk.

I've tried turning the cell phone off before riding the bike thinking the phone's radio was interfering with the FOB signal. Doesn't make any difference.

I've added a Kurakyan LED turn signal/brake lights. I started having problems something like 5 months later. Other than that, I have made no other changes to the bike. It is a 2010 Ultra with 45,000 miles on her.

Thanks for any ideas. (The Harley Dealership had no idea and since it is very intermittent I see no sense in paying them to diagnose the issue, simply because it likely won't do it when they have the bike.)

Have you tried using the fob close to the ignition lock, to see if that makes it more reliable? The reason it's shaped like a fob is so we use it as one - with the key attached! I don't think Harley had in mind that someone would leave the darned thing as far away as possible from the sensor.....

You have a load equalizer on there for the LED lights?

For free, you can pull the plug on the TSSM and re-install it. Not having a security system myself, I don't know if there is a separate receiver. If there is, do the same with it and any other wiring in the system. That should "scrape" clean any oxidation on the contacts. If that fixes it for a while, some dielectric grease the next time might slow the oxidation cycle. Next will come checking for broken wires inside their insulation, but hope is a poor connection as that is easier to fix.

Well, I was experiencing the same annoying issue. Then my cruise control started throwing a code from low voltage.

Bike was starting ok. A little slow. But not alarmingly slow.

So I changed the 3 year old battery.

Both issues went away.

? I have no idea if this was the real problem, however it hasn't done it once since changing the battery,.

I put mine in my trunk and it works great. I don't think that's your problem.

Low voltage - weakening battery - BTW, the 2014's are out, technically a 4 year old battery.

Haha, time sure flies doesn't it. I usually trade every four years due to mileage I suppose that's why I've not bought many batteries, however, I'm keeping this one.

Way cheaper to just wash it. :-)
