Default 2011 Bagger Motor Build

I know very little about motor building and am hoping I can get some insite as to what SHOULD and MUST be done.

I am starting with the new 103 motor.

My plan is:
S&S 117 jugs and pistions.
Send out my heads and get them CNC ported.
S&S 625 Cams.
Screaming Eagle 58mm throttle body (FBW).
Screaming Eagle heavy breather.

I currently have the stock head with the cat removed.

Main Questions I have:
Do I need 2-1 exhaust?
Do I need to weld, true, balance the crank? Really do not want to split the case!
Do I need to do a clutch kit or can I get by with the heavy duty spring?

1. No, you can run whatever exhaust you want, but make sure to contact the company and speak with them about your goals.
2. Im not laughing at you, but the 117 isnt a bolt in kit - you have to bore the case, and with the numbers a 117 puts out, you need to true/weld/plug
3. You will most likely need a clutch - check out AIM's variable clutch kit for around $350

Ya WILL be splitting the cases to bore them for the 117 jugs and ya will need the crank and rods done if ya want it to stay together! Find a good builder and do some research!

I know this is a dumb question, but why does the case need to be bored?

Keep or sell the 103 and install a 120R. You won't be dissappointed.

The jugs aren't a 'slip on' upgrade. You have to bore the case to make room for the new jugs and pistons - if you decide to go that route..

If you really are doing a 117", you should seriously think about having a shop do the work for you. You get into motors that size and fitment gets to be super critical. Its more $$, but your first sentence pretty much sums it up IMO.

I would stick with a bolt-on setup ... a 106" or 107" ... unless you are ready to drop $6,000+++ in a build, clutch, exhaust, tuner, etc. If you know little about motor building, anything more than a 106" or 107" bolt-in job will have to be done by a professional.

I also don't believe you can use your stock 103" heads on a 117" even if you have them ported ... someone else chime in on this one if they know for certain.
