Default Question about stolen saddlebags

For those who have had saddlebags stolen or if you know of someone who has had saddlebags stolen, did any of these bikes have a tourpak mounted? I ask only out of curiosity because it appears to me that with a tourpak in place and a two up seat that it would be difficult to get hands down in there and twist out the pins.

yes I understand that but it still appears that in would be more difficult on a bike with a tourpak in place. not saying that it can't be done, but just want to know if any of these thiefts have been on bikes with a mounted tourpak and a wide seat.

There's also a quick and easy way to open locked saddlebags to get to the fasteners without damage if you have good hand strength.

I wouldnt take the risk questioning thieves' intentions. I would play the safe card and either get the Brukus Saddlebag Secure or build your own security mounting kit from Home Depot or Ace Hardware as others have done from here. Better to be safe than sorry.

They pop the back side clip latches, open the lid and remove the pins from the inside. Tourpack and seat makes no difference.

In our area they dont take the time to open the lid to release the Dzus fasteners, they just pop the clip for the fastener and take the whole bag, lid closed.

We had a set of bags taken from the parking lot of the local HD Dealer, guy went in and came out 10 min later bags gone

I hadn't heard of that, but see how it can easily be done

I made a steel cable that loops through one side of the bag and mount, through the tourpak mount, and looped through the other side bag mount and clip. Secured with a small pad lock. The 3/32nds steel cable, while it doesn't make it theft proof, it will slow someone down because the bags are now secured on a steel cable leash.

All that is needed to remove mine is a 9/16 wrench,
an Allen and Torx. (plus the 2 lock nuts to deal with)

Still do-able in minutes, but not
seconds.
