Do a search on the forums for that. From what I understand, if you follow the HD instructions it's a real pain. There are some inovative shortcuts that work just as well without having to cut and splice wires and hoses.
I hooked mine up using a bushing on the secondary oil tank plug.

Try the link below. Using the bushing in the oil pan is the only way to go. HD is insane with the hose splice crap. I did mine as listed below and it worked like a champ.

Just an FYI...Autometer is developing a drop-in set of gauges for the Harley dressers. They emailed me back yesterday and still won't come out with the units until possibly Aug 07. They are currently working on the fogging issue that original HD gauges have. Here's their website: http://procycle.autometer.com/
I was going to change to the HD silver face gauges, but probably will wait until I see what this company comes up with....(It probably won't be cheap though, but much better gauges).

if you do it with a cold engine and don't pull the fill plug. I doubt you loose 2 tablespoons of oil. don't use any teflon or pipe dope on the fitting. the ground is the fitting. I used wallys also, muchless expensive than HD.

I followed the HD instructions and yes it was a pain. With the bikeon the side stand there was no need to drain the oil. The gas tank removal/reinstall was the easiest part. Cover the front fender while working the fairing/wiring/gauge install. I reused the oil line side cover in spite of HDs claim it would not fit. I still wonder why HD wants the sending unit in the supply unless they figured the oil temp retuning to the engine was more significant than the temp of the oil in one corner of the sump.

Good Luck,
FBL

I lost about 2 thimbles full of oil changing mine. Don't use any Lock-tite either

If you use the bushing method, don't be alarmed if you don't get a reading immediately. I have to ride mine 10 or 15 miles before the needle moves.

I did the Wally's unit, it's actually a Rodger McKewan guage. It was real easy to instal by using the instructions posted on this forum and it works great.

Does anyone know if that temperature guage would work on a 1998 FLHTCUI with the EVO? HD says it fits the 1999 and newer...which is the twin cam. Is there that much of a difference between the twin cam and Evo Electra Glides that the guage will not work?

I am mechanically inclined and probably can make it work...but I would just like to get some ideas first before I lay some cash on it.
