I have the 14" apes on my CVO Ultra and I can ride forever without the back pain that comes with the stock bars. Big improvement! The downside is that 14" places your hands above the fairing which can cause cold hands if your riding in temps below 45 (I have heated grips which takes care of that problem but is something you need to be aware of). Are you REALLY going to do Police type riding? Most people don't come close to it.

I had 14" apes on my old Street Glide, went to Motor School, and took the apes off the next week. The problem is the distance of your left hand in a right turn (talking full bar lock here) and vise versa. I couldn't reach and stay in the seat, and I had every intention of showing off my new slow speed skills, so off they went.

Distance and straight up and down riding they were the most comfortable bars ever, but they just didn't work at bar lock. I needed another 4 or 5 inches of arm. So, again, how much time will you really spend turning to bar lock and scraping boards on your 25K+ machine???

16" cyclesmiths on My streetglide. They are the best mod that I have made to the bike. Period.

If you ride any distance over 35 miles you'll have sore arms, but dry pits. kinda ruins the idea of having a long distance touring bike. But you'll look cool to the buds.

14s is a good size and should be very comfortable. I have 16s on mine and love them.

I've always been curious how ape size relates to rider size. I'm only 5'8" and can't imagine something like a 16" ape being comfortable (or even safe, for that matter). But... maybe I'm wrong. I'll ride my new FLTRU stock for a while and see what comfort issues happen.

14s and 16s are perfectly safe. 18s (like in my sig) and up are another world but perfectly safe just gotta get used to them. I'm 6'1 so 18s are like shoulder level fo me.

I guess I'd have to sit on someone's bike that had them. I can't imagine I could reach the controls on something that tall.
