I will just add that my '99 with 66K runs like a new bike. Very strong engine.
When I converted my tensioners to the hydraulic set up I added the Andrew's 21 cam at the same time. If you do not intend to go with any other engine upgrades and stay with the 88", I can not say enough good things about this cam. My bike easily keeps up with my friends 96" and 103" motors, and the low end torgue/accelleration it produces will put a huge smile on your face.
Thanks guys. Mike, I missed your earlier comment about Hertigate Softail classic - Since the +2007 road kings are a little to expensive for me I can see some earlier heritage that are less miles, with the EVO engine and in good shape. Perhaps its better that I look into them. I see a real nice 1994 heritage softail for sale with about 30k miles.

The heritage "looks" classic- lighter weight, solid mount motor ( more vibrations) maybe not as fun for 8 hour days...but certainly great for day rides
and many, many riders have coast to coasted on them with no complaints...just not my thing ( and I got old bikes that already look 'classic?
the twincam version uses the twin cam B moor which has balancing shafts- some of the same cam/efi concerns
