I lost the small nut and the locking tab for one of my bags, it looks like it's stripped now so i'll have to replace the whole locking mechanism. Can I just get a replacement from my parts store or does the key have to match up and have to go to a dealer?
If you just lost the nut and tab its not that much to replace and might be able to find the parts you need elsewhere. Mine worked itself loose on my SG. Luck for me the tab just fell inside the bag but the nut was missing. If the whole locking mechanism came out and lost then of course its most likely best you go to the dealer.
Here's a picture of the tab i'm missing? Can I just buy that part at a parts store?
You mean "here's a pic of what I have left"? The tab and nut (not shown) are what's missing. Although the tab is a very simple part I doubt that you'd find it at any parts store. Just head to the dealer and pick one up along with a new nut then you can re-use the lock mechanism. As for the threads being stripped, although I can see a few nicks on them in the picture, I'm sure they're still functional as this is not a high-stress application.
I read a thread on here a few weeks ago about someone in the same predicament as you so I went out and checked mine. Both were loose. I would have never thought to check mine if it wasn't for this forum.
