Batwing Windshield Question...I know...I know...
That's a real good looking bagger! Nice job. The windshield looks good too for a taller one.
It's taken a lot of planning, executing, parts and ofcourse a substantial amount of $$$ to get it to where it currently is!!
It has not been real easy. lolol.
The windshield is a 9 inch recurve in dark w/a flip at the top.
I had one of those aero-dynamic shaped ones on for about 2 weeks and pulled it and sold it. Prefer the more classic look I guess.
I did the half moon fork baffle, plus the fairing wings, and then went with these which are much nicer looking the Jes's IMO. This was done prior to the install of the lowers from Hogg Chopps. They are custom made and I don't know if they are still available or not anymore. I still have the chrome teeth and may sell them. PM me if interested.

With the stock HD 12"? (clear) windshield I get zero wind. However I hate the look of it, and actually prefer a wee bit of wind when its hotter out.
Tried the 6" HD shield which I like the look of, but is useless to reduce buffeting, and even worse in the rain.
Also tried the HD windsplitter and liked the looks, and the buffeting seemed much less, but I didn't have it long as it interfered with my windshield bags and GPS.
Current shield is an 9" LRS med tint ultra. If I don't slouch its perfect and I see right over it, but I still get wind where my helmet starts. If I slouch or lean back and relax while on a longer highway cruise, I have to look through the very top and its a little to dark to see the road well.
Also my LRS was cracked by my dealer and they deny it, saying it was like that when they pulled it off. So I'd much rather go with a poly-carb this go around.
Has anyone tried the NEW LRS Poly-Carb ultra?
I know how LRS recommends you measure for your windshield but I'm curious if the rest of you have another method? I like it to be as short as possible while still shooting the wind up and over my helmet. (crazy how we all are in the search of the exact same elusive beast)
Anyhow I need to order something and soon before my trip. I don't want to embark with a semi damaged one that could get worse.
Have at it folks!
- the stock 12" clear looks lame IMO and I don't like the idea that I can't look over it if it gets full of bugs or whatever
- I bought a 9" LRS recurve with a light tint and just got back from a 2500 mile trip with it. It looks fabulous BUT (like you) if I slouch, I'm looking through it and I have to make an effort, especially near the end of a long day to look over it....it's too tall.
- right now I have a 6" streetglide windshield on the bike and I like being able to look over it but I'm not crazy about how the bike looks with it on and it doesn't deflect the wind nearly as much as the LRS.
- My LRS is cracking up from a mounting hole. This was a brand new shield 3 weeks ago: not impressed.
My take-away from all this is that I really think it's best to have a shield that is low enough to look over easily. For me (5' 11"), that is definitely no taller than 8" and 7" would probably be better. If I was to order another LRS shield it would be a poly shield for sure. I may try to cut my 9" down by 1.5" or so and try that.
2 cents,
Dave
