This is a ridiculous discussion IMO. If you got a ticket for 1 foot down, but came to a complete stop, you should have contested it on the spot, and again in court.

AGAIN, I want to remind/CAUTION YOU (others) Sir(s)/Madam(s), If/When the CAMERA determines YOUR status, and sends YOU a ticket, YOU WILL PAY (or else YOU AUTOMATICALLY LOO$E YOUR LICEN$E while YOU try to appeal/apply your due proce$$ right$)... Call this discussion stupid, inappropriate, "...ridiculous..." whatever... YOU/Et al have missed the point... I may agree with YOU... There ARE IN FACT many legitimate different degrees/definitions/(due-process)-discussions of 'stopping'... BUT, YOU will NOT be allowed due process... Those rights are GONE... These discussions and YOUR circumstances will be MOOT... Welcome to the new democratic society (WHO [YOU???] voted for this???!!!)... NOT ME...

The intersection stop camera scenario continues to 'educate' me... I suggest; 1. Keep cameras out of your Town/County/State... 2. Always come to a full stop... 3. If you know there is a stop camera watching do NOT make a right-on-red, (DO NOT PROCEED, WAIT FOR THE GREEN LIGHT) even after a full/both feet down stop, because if the camera makes a decision that you did not meet the stop-criteria and issues a ticket, your argument/due process rights/ALL practicality is moot and the cost in time/money/effort to 'educate/fight the system'/try to exercise due process rights is enormous/inordinate/doomed and only serves to perpetuate the new democratic $y$tem... 4. NOTE: When/if you are traveling/touring/vacationing/working out-of-State/away from home and get a camera ticket it will be mailed to your home address (without your knowledge), looking like advertisement/junk-mail, perhaps remaining there until you get back (if not discarded by a neighbor/accidently) and by that time you will have racked-up more (automatic) penaltie$... If you are not there to receive a subsequent registered letter of notification, again, tough luck, and MORE automatic (due-proce$$-LE$$) irrever$ible penaltie$/license revocation... 5. The CAMERA will decide if YOU stopped and YOUR understanding/experience/'ALL practical application/intent of the law' will change, and not necessarily for the better... 6. Intersection cameras are bad for small-business because people will avoid going into Town/areas where they exist... 7. Camera angles/edits can work against you... 8. Laws/interpretations may differ from Town/County/State/Et al and the 'confusion' is not in your favor... 9. Many/most law enforcement agencies are highly staffed and well equipped requiring lots of $$$ to support it and these cameras (not cheap themselves) are a means to get YOUR money in the most efficient/effective prosecutorial way possible...

In Ohio you are to stop for something like 2 seconds before leaving a stop sign...I try to stop without putting feet down, sometimes it works sometimes I end up looking like an idiot...but what the heck it is what it is.

Interestingly, I was speaking with a lady that had just taken her drivers test. She told me that if you put down your right foot when you stop they will fail you.

I don't get that. I often put down both feet.

Anyway, kinda off topic, carry on....

Safety course taught when coming to a stop you've downshifted into first, drop left foot (no dragging,) right covering brake... you are ready to move (out of a bad situation) instantly. This applied to emergency stops also. The right foot covering the brake ensures the brake light is on so the idiots behind you have a better chance of seeing that you're stopped. You're in first gear so you don't look like a squid trying to get ready to move again. Your right hand is on the throttle only so you have complete control there, ready to move. When leaving a stop you lift your left foot asap (no foot dragging) and keep the brake covered for a second or so to keep the idiots behind you from getting too anxious with the accelerator pedal. It was also suggested that when stopped, your brake light must remain lit for the duration, not sure if that's law but nobody can argue they thought you were moving when they hit you from behind. Breaking any of these rules were deductions and would likely cost you your certificate (and license endorsement) at the end of the course.

Hmm, could have sworn it was in the booklet I had to study for the test. I didn't take driver's ed - just read the book and practiced doing donuts at the snowy HS parking lot with mom (who figured if I could handle it in snow, I could handle it anywhere). Still, they could have put anything in that book that wasn't technically law and I wouldn't have known any different.

John K has it the way I was taught, which makes really good sense to me. I try to practice it on every ride for my own safety.

Yeah that is debatable. And probably isn't true now anyway.

Well news for you, you can fight a camera ticket. And that is why they are being removed in many locations throughout the US.
