Just for future knowledge you can unlock the fuel door on an ultra with any round Harley key does not have to be the same key as the ignition.

I just installed the push button on mine yesterday. Only had the bike a week, and knew that was on the top of the list.

That was one of the items the deal review with me before pulling off the lot.

and when the push button fails...( like on my bike), you can remove the dash to access the filler on recent model...on earlier models you can use a brass feeler gauge to release the catch...will only take 40 minutes or so.

the push button in a POS.

the brass pin in the linkage can vibrate out of place- and then you are sunk...800 miles from home 30 miles of gas range left and the gas station closes for the night in an hour.

you may like it now...but one day you may have my experience.

Thanks dedjr67. I forgot to mention that the cover lock is universal and any barrel key will open it but it will not unlock anything else on another bike and the Ultra knew that.

This has been covered before here on the Forum and other places - lots of bad reviews. The pushbuttons have been known to fail - too often. I'm sure there are some folks for whom it has worked well. But when it does fail, you are surely SOL. I'll continue to use my key, thank you very much. I've not read anywhere that any of them have failed.

On the newer bikes it's kind of hard to forget the key. If you don't have that fob with you your not going anywhere anyway unless you like manually putting in the code. :-)

I read a couple of posts recently from guys who managed to forget their fobs. One was in the habit of keeping it in his jacket, which on a a warm day, he didn't need. Unfortunately it was hanging on a hook just feet from his ride. He figured that out at the bank when tried to start it up again. DOH!

Back to the original subject... I hadn't heard about the problems with push buttons on the gas door - good to know. I take it there is no simple fix to keep the pin in place?

Your comment assumes the fob and the key go hand in hand, but the are separate. I've known some to take just the fob, without the key or key ring, thinking it fits better in the pocket. But they do it once and then put them back together.
