For new cases with matching numbers and labor I do not think that estimate is that far off. I had to recase my 89 due to a cracking by the rocker blocks. I used S&S cases.

Order the cases and do it yourself. Its not any more difficult to split the cases than to do a set of cams. Just more nuts and bolts.

Default Yes, you can save the cases !

I used to work with a guy in Madison, FL. Victor Hutcherson, Hutcherson Machine Shop, 7213 Florida 14 Madison, FL 32340. If you pull the motor out, clean the cases and the pieces of all the oil that you can. Victor can weld them up for you and possibly weld you a bung so you can screw a new plug in. Good luck !

My buddy made this mistake on his fat boy. it didn't break the pieces off it just cracked it and leaked. I ground it out with a dremel and JB welded. but yours is a more extreme case. bummer dude.

If used cases can't be found www.ketterharleyonline.com has roughly 20% off, no sales tax(so far) and free shipping on HD parts over $99. If you don't have the part number the web site has a phone number to get help.

Reminds me of my shovel - the exhaust threads on both heads broke away and a local drag racer repaired them and put helicoil inserts in. So a competent welder can probably repair those cases. He could also weld that hole up to get rid of that drain plug! My Evo doesn't have one.
