Thespring on my kickstand is getting rather weak. Are their any tricks to changing out the spring or do you just use a good pair of grips and stretch away?
Stretch away not a good idea, take the top keeper nut off at the top after standing the bike up (you can wedge some wood under the bike if you dont have a lift 2 2x4 and a 1x4 laid on top of each other will work) pull the stand out of the collar and replace the spring. Install in the reverse
Pay close attention to the way the spring is before you take it out.
If you put the hooks in backwards, they have a tendency to pop out while riding down the road.
Another way to remove the spring is to take off the stop lug under the top nut, paying attention to the long and short of the locking leg. It will make sense after you look at it, then without taking the leg out of the 'collar'; just swing the stand to the front and the spring will go slack. Reverse, installing the hooks in the spring the same way they are on your model, YMMV, bring the leg back and reinstall the lug, as removed, and nut. While you have it loose, you can clean and relube the shaft in the collar.
While the spring is extended, fill the slots with pennies. Costs about 10 cents
Install is reversed. Real simple, has been done on side of road with no tools.
Good luck.
