anyone else have this problem? The replacement cost for this spring is $69.95, because u have to a whole new switch. This is on an 05 RK, but I'm pretty sure all these switches are the same. Anyone know of an aftermarket spring or an easier fix? Thanks in advance for any help.
Yep, 3/16 x 3" toggle bolt with spring loaded butterfly ends that go thru wallboard did the trick. found at local hardware store. Simply remove the spring, bend the ends over and install. I used 2 of them for added strength.
cost of part - $1.98
time spent on toilet thinking of this idea - priceless

Just wanted to say "THANKS!!!!!!". My start/stop switch spring for my '08 Softail Springer CVO gave up the ghost. I was pissed to see HD only provides a $56 (though better than the expected "Hundred Dollars" minimum, right?) assembly replacement. Bumped in to this posting.
Found this posting. Went to Home Depot and picked up the 3/16" x 3" toggle bolt for $1.98 ... a little bit of patience and gentle bending to match the original ... and it worked perfectly. I couldn't get 2 of them to seat in there cleanly ... but now I have a spare ready to go if this one gives up.
HINT: SAVE YOUR ORIGINAL spring pieces. put them back together between two pieces of clear cellophane tape. You can use that as a template to bend your new springs to the same series of bends.
HINT: Try to determine the spring orientation inside the switch housing - BEFORE you take it out. So you can put the new one back in the same orientation.
