Default Knock?

After my bike sits all night and I start it for the first time everyday, It has a knock in the lower engine area. It doesn't do it the rest of the day no matter how many times I start and stop. The knock last a few seconds and goes away. Any Idea's. 2000 Ultra Classic

Thanks, Tim

Sounds like a potential compensator knock. Lots of possibilities, but that's my first thought...

See if you can tell which side it's coming from, which side it seems to be louder at, & is it a low knock or a loud tick? Sounds like it could just be a lifter bleeding down, louder on the right side & more of a loud tick?

Gotta be the lifter. No worries. Unless it doesn't get quite in a few seconds.

Tell us what a lifter bleed down is and what it sounds like DTTJ it will help the OP isolate the sound...I hear it a lot but no one ever explains it.

Thanks for the info guys, I'm pretty sure the noise is on the left side.

The lifter is hydraulic & the oil can "bleed" out of it over time, that will allow there to be a little clearance between the lifter & pushrod or the pushrod & the rocker arm. It just sounds like a loud tick & usually goes away in a few seconds, it's more likely to occur near the oil change interval as the oil loses some of it's viscosity.
