Default Tuner or not ?

Removed the cat from my stock headpipe on my 2012 stock Limited ( to eliminate some of the heat ) and am about to put a set of reworked mufflers ( no baffles at all ) from American Customs on and would like to know whether I should look at another tuner or not. Always heard you can do a pipe change without a tuner but not sure if the cat removal and muffler change is the same and a tuner is not needed. What say the experts ?

you may get away without a tuner, some bikes seem to tolerate the removal better than others, but the bike will run way, way better with one...

No cat and no baffles? Seems that would increase the air flow quite a bit. If you end up loosing too much back pressure you may need a tune of some sort. When you say "another tuner" does that mean you have something already?

I agree... get a tuner of some kind. Even a stock bike can benefit from a better tune than the factory preset one.

The 09s don't have cats and run the American Custom pipe wide open with no problems for the most part. Yours would be no different. However someone with your setup made a post a short time ago complaining of popping on decel. That could happen with any unrestricted pipe, there is bound to be back flow. Not every bike is the same, yours may handle it okay or it might not, no way to know until you try it. Without Xied's or a tuner your bike is going to run hot no matter what.

No cat and no baffles, I hope you like it loud. Have a contingiency plan in place should the sound be too loud or the plugs get really white (lean). Your adding a lot more air to the same amount of fuel and that spells lean. I've seen em run fine that way but, do you really want to?

Trying to type faster than my brain is capable. No tuner on the bike now. I had a SG prior to this with the stage one setup w PCV and my gas mileage was horrible.... in the high 20's - low 30's. This was with several changes of maps from Jamie. I was trying to not go the tuner route because of that. No reflection on Jamie 'cause he sent me new maps on at least 3 occasions to try and remedy it but no dice. So, it sounds like I probably should either go with some baffle or go the tuner route. I did order the mid range baffles assuming it may be too loud but thought I would try the no baffles 1st.

So, do you all think I may be alright with some sort of baffle in but not good with no baffle ?

YOU WILL NEED TO get a tune. You are not necessarily adding more air to the mixture but you are changing the back pressure so much with the baffle-less slip ons and the catless converter. It WILL pop and surge and act funny with that setup and without a tune. Ask me how I know... Experience is a mutherf*cker!! Oh yeah, the no baffles and catless headpipe sounds AWESOME!! I love the hell outta my setup and the way it barks when you get on it. It definitely amplifies the gurgling and popping sound too thats present under the downshifting scenarios. All of my riding buddies love how it sounds and I have even convinced a few to go that route. I must warn you. It will be loud. Not a raspy tinny loud but a deep rumbling spine chilling, window rattling loud.

Well just got back from a short ride with the catless headpipe and American Custom mufflers with no baffles. Bike seemed to run fine with no decal pop at all. Sounded fantastic, I am going to run for a day or so and check the plugs but it appears to be fine without the tuner at this point. Not ready to bag the tuner idea yet , I guess the plugs will tell the story.
