Enjoy ride it and tune it if needed. Not sure you air flow has increased but you should have less back pressure. Just a beginner but I would think you would need some type of decal tune. Not sure it would cause any mechanical issues only for peace of mind.
Trying to type faster than my brain is capable. No tuner on the bike now. I had a SG prior to this with the stage one setup w PCV and my gas mileage was horrible.... in the high 20's - low 30's. This was with several changes of maps from Jamie. I was trying to not go the tuner route because of that. No reflection on Jamie 'cause he sent me new maps on at least 3 occasions to try and remedy it but no dice. So, it sounds like I probably should either go with some baffle or go the tuner route. I did order the mid range baffles assuming it may be too loud but thought I would try the no baffles 1st.
So, do you all think I may be alright with some sort of baffle in but not good with no baffle ?
What do you mean no reflection on Jamie? He sent you bad maps, how is that no reflection on him? Fuel mileage in the 20s and 30s because of a stage one is horrible. Don't make the same mistake twice, get yourself a tuner but stay away from fuel moto. You are not the only one who has had a bad experience with them. The good news is there are good tuners out there. Search your area and fine someone who knows their stuff and get whatever tuner he is familiar with.
Agree with most of the recommendations here to get a tuner/get it tuned. The cat seems to be only one part of the equation for for the heat, the other part being the EPA regs which result in bikes running lean from the factory. A little extra fuel will go a long way toward bringing down temps and uncovering some performance gains.
At this point what is the downside of not buying a tuner. Performance is not a priority for me at all. I want response when I hit the throttle to pull out into traffic but could care less if it runs faster than anyone else. Can it do damage to the motor or cause other issues ? If it runs ok to me as far as throttle response and no decal pop or hesitation will it be ok to run it like this ? Again, running fast and hard is not a priority to me.
If you are happy with the performance of the bike and have made no other changes it will run just fine as is. If it has no decel pop and dont ping, it is fine. You have been a member for a bit and you should know its already lean out of the box. A set of vied/flxied will help alot with that IF you plan nothing further than a stage 1. You cant beat it 100 bucks to fix the lean. BLUF, you will not hurt your bike. Its still new, ride the hell out of it, lol.
Plugs will tell you nothing about the tune on a fuel injected engine. These things run so clean these days that it will never let you know if you are running lean or not (unless of course you making tons of power and using tons of fuel). Best bet is to err on the side of caution and get a tuner or at least some of those veid things that people always talk about. Tune would be best because you are not tuning for more air, you are tuning for less back pressure.
My67pnycar6....thanks for the reply on vied/flxied...I looked them up and now understand perfectly...not a bad way to go...also THANKS for serving our country!
