Default Speedometer

I have a dead speedometer on my 02 e glide
It lights up shows mileage but not speed and
Doesn't count the miles. I replaced the speed
Sensor as I had an extra just for giggles. The
Speedometer still isn't working. Any where else
To look before I order a new one

To tell ya the truth I would try to find one off ebay. The HD dealer is going to be rather expensive. It's crazy you can buy the Titanium faced ones cheaper than the factory replacement gauges.
Any ways I think you can look for up to year 2004 for your bike.

You won't be able to use an '04 or newer speedo; they use serial data while your bike uses analog data. If you buy used, you won't be able to correct the mileage on it.

So is that 03 and back on that, they started the serial data in 04 then? They made so many changes in the next few years. and thx Harleypingman

A couple observations. Before you invest in a new speedo make sure one of the terminals isn't backing out of the speedo sensor plug when you snap the plug together. I've seen it countless times with connectors over the years. And as a Mechanic I used to keep spare things like sensors and switches in my box for test purposes. Sometimes I'd have a couple crank sensors that I had been keeping as spares just to find out they were ALSO bad.

I had a speedo on a friends chopper that wouldn't read mph. We ordered a new speedo sensor but it was aftermarket. Bad right out of the box. Put a genuine Harley sensor (new) in the bike and it was fixed.

My RoadKing goes through a new speedo sensor about every 5-6 years. I know the symptoms by now. The speedo needle will drop to zero a couple of times while I'm cruising at highway speeds. I know it's time to stop by the dealer and pick up a new $158.00 sensor (that's what the last one cost anyway). I'm on my third one.

Yes. The '04 model year was the first for using serial data. As for how far back from '03 will work on the '02, I can't say. HD's catalog shows a fitment break for the speedo and tach in '04 and may be a useful tool. When HD introduced the silver faced gauges from the '06 SG as an accessory, they offered different speedos and tachs for the '03 than the '04 models.

My 01 eglide has done this. New speed sensor did not fix it. I finally pulled the front of the batwing off, and one at a time unplugged every connection, cleaned with QED electronics cleaner, then reassembled. That fixed it.

Well I am a car mechanic too. I just don't have all the diagnostic equipment
To look at signals and all. Well now I have fixed sort of. The lock for the connector
On the speedo is fubared beyond belief. The guy who this bike prev. Just hacked
And cut. I have silver gauges on mine were they an accessory my current parts
Book only shows the black ones. If somebody had a whole set of black I would trade
In a heartbeat
