Exclamation Clutch issue when starting

Just recently put some apes on my 09 SG. After they were installed, I followed the service manual on how to adjust the clutch and everything but when I go to start the bike in gear (of course with the clutch lever pulled) the bike wants to lunge forward. If the bike is not running and in gear it is hard to push it when the clutch is depressed. can anybody point me in the right direction?

it is normal that when you hit the starter, there is some forward movement- just from the clutch plates stuck together.

they should "free-up" right away

that's with a properly adjusted clutch.

I am thinking though that you need to go over your adjustment again.

lots of threads on adjusting

the motorcyle clutch is a multiplate design, not like a car clutch where when you push the pedal all the parts are pulled apart fron each other.

On the bike clutch there is always a little '"stiction" causing the plates and disks to stay in contact for a moment

on old British bikes with a wet clutch, a couple of kicks were to free up the clutch

probably- it's a judgement call- a matter of degree

when you start the bike in gear, clutch pulled, it will jerk forward a bit...but it won't shoot into the laundry room.

neutral is good for starting
