First Overnighter- how do most keep their rides safe?
Park in a well lit area either in view of the front desk or your room. Set the factory security system with siren. Put a front wheel lock on it and call it good.
Make sure you also have full coverage insurance.
You could also cover with a cover that does not say HD on it...
We spend $25k for a bike that says Harley on it, then put thousands of chrome goodies to show it off as different than the other harley, but we cover it with something that doesn't draw attention, when we can't watch over it. I love the Honda Goldwing cover trick!!!
Hell, I just use the HD Oasis day cover.

Your bike doesn't have to be impossible to steal, just more trouble than it's worth to the thief. The more you can increase the chances of the bad guy being seen or slow him down, the less risk you run.
The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
Thieves are lazy. The more difficult is for them, the more likely they will move on.
Here is what I do:
1. park in well lit, higher traffic area, preferably where you can see it from your room, which you want to be on a lower level.(called "down and out" in the hotel biz)
2. Use a generic motorcycle cover w/ lock (Wall Mart, $20.00)
3. (some say this is most important) Chain to an immovable object, like a fence post or street sign. Use a high quality lock and chain. I use Street Cuffs. http://cgi.ebay.com/Master-STREET-CU...QQcmdZViewItem
4. Set alarm (I have pager w/ audible siren)
5. Lock forks and ignition
6. Strategially place a cheap Uncle Mikes .357 holster near or onthe bike. (If going coverless, make it a shoulder holster dangling fromthe handlebars)
7. Be sure your insurance is paid up
Sleep well. You have done all you can.
