I tried searching and could not find anything. I just put police hard bags back on my FLHRC. I noticed that the pucks seem to dig into the lid on the side closest to the bike. This has dug a hole in the paint right under the lip of the puck. Didn't notice it last year so I'm not sure when it happened. It's almost as if when the pucks lock into place it's bending down into the lid on the inside(3 o'clock position on the left bag and 9 o'clock position on the right bag). Anyone else have this problem or see this before? Any body know a fix? Thanks!
and mine don't do that. I would have to guess that the shaft or the hole the shaft goes through is worn. See if you can wobble the puck a bit. You should be able to tell what is excessive. You could put some fiber washers under the pucks that raise them up a bit. Or, even put some silicone sealer in the recess where the end of the shaft goes into the puck, to give it a slight gap between the puck and bag top.
There are also replacement locks, I forget who makes them, but they are push button lock/releases. Somebody will come in and post link maybe...
Had this issue on a department motor....the problem as I recall it was with a worn bushing or something similar on the puck assembly that allowed it to "ride low". We had it fixed at the dealer who did all the service, including a free replacement lid. They bent over backwards for us to get our business and it was only a year or so old - warranty? Twin bike never had that issue. Chief blamed one of the riders for being too hard on the bike until the service manager bailed him out. Apparently there were a few that came back from other departments as well.
You can try adjusting the metal catch on the inside of the bag too...possibly its down too low and when you close it, its pulling everything else down too hard?
Take a look at Fat Baggers Inc. I bought the police puck replacement ***** and they are great..it'll be in the "saddlebag" section. I had mine powder coated black and they blend right in. I also had the tops of my lids repainted for the same reason you're talking about. Removing the lids and replacing them after painting will be a problem unless you know a dealer that has the tool for the exact rivets the police bag uses. http://store.fatbaggers.com/index.html
The puck pushes onto the shaft. The shaft is splined and so is the puck (tight friction fit). With some work you can pull up on the puck and reset it to whatever height and degree of levelness you want. Bad puck alignment is usually caused by using the palm of the hand on the puck to apply force on the lid while turning it to the closed position.
