Just thought I would give my thoughts on my new Ultra I got a week ago today. I have logged on several hundred miles this week (being retired has it's perks). Overall I'm very pleased with this bike as expected, I had taken a dealer demo out for a good long ride before purchasing my own. Power, Handling and even the stock exhaust note is great. I went a 190 miles on the first tank of gas with a half a gallon left in the tank. We have had nice cool break in type weather which was a bonus and I took advantage of it following proper break in procedure, and the bike is running great. If I have anything to complain about and being 6'2" is that my legs feel a little cramped on longer outings and I get a little lower back ache. I will probably be able to cure this with a back rest and the adjustable peg mount kit mounted to the engine guard. The windshield height is perfect so nothing to do there. Some other minor things I will upgrade are the snap on glove box lids on the lowers, the hinges on the tour pack (I can't believe they don't match the latches) and eventually upgrade the stereo speakers. There may be a few more things I will want to do after I log on some more miles but that is it for now!
The backrest will make a huge difference. I also changed out the cheap snap lower covers with magnet ones. I agree about the exhaust note, however with the summer heat I know the cat is going to be a problem.
Congrats on the new scoot, and thanks for first impressions.
Since its such a common complaint/observation, what are your thoughts about wind buffeting with the bike in stock form and what style helmet do you wear (if any)?

I only experienced some minor buffeting once enough to shake my glasses some and I attribute that to a certain wind direction. For the most part I feel like I'm riding in clean air and can hear the stereo well at half volume at highway speeds. I have worn 2 different Harley helmets one being their new Hybrid version and the other being their half helmet with ear flaps. I cant remember which one I had on when the slight buffeting occurred but both seem to be similar in nature which is very good as far as buffeting and noise. I did not know the Ultra was known for buffeting, I'm surprised to hear that based on my experience, but someone's height may be a factor for sure.
Congratulations! Those highway pegs are going to make a world of difference. I didn't particularly like the backrest and took it off. (came with the bike) Retired? I expect 500 miles next week!
A rider backrest will make a HUGE difference....trust me!
I have 2013 CVO S/E Ultra, which as a "Hammock" seat and it's my understanding that this seat sits the ride up and inch, as well as an inch father back on the bike.
All I know is that I knew as soon as I sat on that bike that the handlebars would have to be changed and a 450 mile run one day confirmed this!
I had the W.O.'s 577's installed on my bike (which may be a bit too high for some riders) as they place the grips a bit above the fairing, but they fit me perfectly.
A backrest, a pair of handlebars that fits you, electronic cruise control and a set of engine guard foot pegs, can make most any bike a real "mile eater"!

Hinges don't match latches? I feel like I'm missing something here.
Skip the glovebox mod and wait till you are ready to put speakers in those lowers.
Glad to hear you are lovin' it. Keep that odometer turning!
I came from 2 sporties to my limited. The back rest and centerstand came with the bike as part of the deal when I purchased it. World of diff with the back rest and the centerstand makes cleaning so much easier. If you think the radio is good now, add some hogtune speakers and speaker pod to it, it will wake up, much better than the junk stock speakers, less than 300 for speakers all around, search fleabay, they are out there. Congrats on your new sled, purdy bike. Wish you many miles of smiles man. Stay safe.
