Hey guys, just picked up this 2002 EGC EFI with 37k a couple of months ago, nice shape, mostly stock. It does have the SE air cleaner and some HD slip on mufflers. It seems to have been running a lil hot compared to my 2002 FXD, and not sure if the bike has had the stage 1 ECM remap with the air cleaner.
The PO had passed and I bought the bike from the son, of whom knew nothing of maintenance nor had any records. I suspect that the remap was never done.
This afternoon in the downtown area, the speedometer stopped working and the engine starting running terrible, and will stall if the throttle is not feathered. An hour away from home, I turned around from my intended destination, and came back. The check engine light did come on while on my way home, but is not on now since the bike sat for a lil while.
Please offer any advice to check, this is the first EFI bike I've owned. I bought the FSM if there is something that is advised to check.
....so its obvious that the motorcycle is running lean, doesnt take a genius to figure that out. It will need a fuel management device, such a a PC3 or a Fuelpak.
Its been raining here all damn day, but I started it up and it idled normally. I wonder if it was running like total **** yesterday as a form of self-preservation, to resist overheating..
Any feedback on the best best to maximize the EFI ratio?
Clean off the speed sensor for the speedo issue. It can get metal shavings on it which can keep it from working properly. For teh idle clean out your iac with carb and throttle body cleaner. And if there is not tuner or tune on the bike get one.
