Default Can it be fixed

I got a HD ADJUSTABLE RIDERS BACKREST..Had someone pick it up in the USA so returning it really not an option. I installed it and am not sure if they all fit poorly or am I just lucky. When I slide the back rest into its track set up..It fits very loose..Lots of side to side movement and even quite sloppy front to back. Its like the insert and the base are not matched up..The backrest inserts thru the slit in the seat and then into the base. When its locked in and ya grab the backrest, you can wiggle it side to side like an inch or more. Not a huge issue if leaning against it, but I expect,(to cold to test) but when bike runnig without leaning on it, the thing will be flopping around like a beached whale..Anyone have this backrest and is the fit that bad, or is something wrong here..Any suggestions on getting a better fit..

Good Morning yota , I have a riders backrest on my 02 Ultra as well.
It came with the bike whenI boguht it from Cariboo Cycles here on the West coast. the unit does move around some when the bike is stationary ( when parked) but once I set my fat **** in the saddle it doesnt move other than to allow it to follow my back movement in the saddle.

My first Eglide(89FLHTC)didnt have a back rest and the stock saddle made me slouch forward and that cause some disscomfort on long rides to Drumheller and Reno, with the backrest I am able to keep my back a bit straighter and find more comfor/less slouching. I hope to hit the I-5 this spring and hit Reno or the Arizona border or maybe the Pacific Coast Hwy to Big Sur.
Those are just ideas being considered for the time being.

how much Snow you got in Alberia ???

Without seeing it,I guess the track is to wide for the post?
Maybe you can make some shims to take up the slop.
Plastic or metel would work.Use JB weld to bond shims on the sides of the post or track.

I think I have the same backrest as you, the one with the cable and adjustment lever on the side of the frame, and mine is very wobbly as well. I haven't had a chance to see one on another bike, or to stop by the dealer to ask him about it, but I am not happy with it.[:@]

For one thing, it doesn't fold forward nearly as well as the cheaper one, and I can't use the Kuryakyn heat shields with it, because the adjustment lever for the seat would be inaccessible. [:@]

If it is the non on the fly adjustable, just the poke in the slit, move up or down four increments, check the center spring in the two arms that index the height. Mine is weak and the one leg that moves got it's pivot broken before I purchased the bike. I've tweaked it a bit, but it is loose, knocks about abit. When you lay into it, mine settles in fine.
