Maybe the best solution is one oem fastener and one brukus on each bag. One to deter thieves, the other for keeping the bag on if you're like me and forget to check before each ride! =(

Or a clevis pin and clip and a stock fastener......if your bag falls off with that set-up, you are in deep poop...........I been running that set up since late '08 without incident......A few bucks in parts ( 2 clevis pins, 2 clip and 4 fender washers) from Lowes/Home Depot and removes as easily has the stock fastener.....

I like the chrome guard bars on my Ultra. I would really be in a bad way before a bag would fall off my bike.

I dont have the Brukus kit but it's the same idea I got off of ebay. I've been popping the bags on and off lately but usually every time I run off anywhere on the bike I check those fasteners. I also make sure to put some blue loctite on as well.

Can the new ABS bags be fixed paint/body work?

Thanks.
I see you have Merlot Sunglo paint color, you MAY find that it would be cheaper to replace the bag than having it repaired and repainted. I scraped my saddlebag on my 2012 SG ember red sunglo, and it cost more to repair and repaint it, because the paint is so dammed expensive, than to replace the bag bottom with a new one.
The other advantage to a new bag is you know the color will match perfectly.
Go to LSHD for 20% off a new bag and cover

Both of mine were fubar but no cracks so insurance replaced latches and had the bags painted. It was 175 a bag including lids but that was vivid black.

Same thing happened to me. I was riding back from Sturgis last August, and had cars pointing to me..... I pulled over, looked down, and saw my power cord bare wires (bag had accesory plug in it) and no bag. An "oh sh@t" moment because I had lots of valuable gear in it. I went to next exit and backtracked....about 10 miles...and found it. Lid still shut, but corners burnt through from dragging and sliding on the road. I don't know how it ended up on the side of the road and contents undamaged! If I recall correctly it was about $500 to replace it.
This was a Brukus kit as well. Other bag was rock solid. Somehow it vibrated out I assume from the trip from Ohio to Sturgis with gear loaded. I check them occasionally now!
