I'd put one of the stock Dzus fasteners back on for security and peace of mind.

The other advantage to a new bag is you know the color will match perfectly.
Go to LSHD for 20% off a new bag and cover
This is the reason I didn't by a Red Sunglow. I was worried about scratches, so I ask a painter his opinion and he said red Sunglow is twice as expensive as most other colors to paint. But looking back, I wish I had bought one knowing I would just buy new parts. They are beautiful bikes.

I agree, but I read enough of these post that I think the dealerships need to show new Harley owners how to attach them. They are good fasteners, but a little tricky getting them snapped in.

I just installed the Brukus bolts and if installed properly and checked periodically I don't see this being an issue.

You must not have used the bag that much or even the slightest looseness in the bolts would be noticed at once when you went to open and close it. I loosened mine and tested and it was easy to see that something was loose.

Before I installed the Brukus bolts I did pull my bags off, and having never done it before as I just got the bike, I didn't get the OEM fasteners installed correctly on one side and if not for the guards on the bike I would have lost it. The fasteners fell into the bag and it was just rattling around in the guards. I will say you can't hear it while driving but it was evident once I tried to open them. So I can see this happening if the bags aren't used regularly as you don't notice it while in motion.

So the key words here are "Properly Secured" and "Checked Periodically" no matter what fasteners are used.

The bigger worry I have about this is the fear of someone behind me having an accident if one fell off. The bags can be fixed but I'd feel terrible if someone got hurt.

I would call Brukus and tell them what happened. They seem to be very responsive and I am sure would want to hear about this.

Hmmm;

I also use one "bolt and J nut" fastener and one factory fastener per bag. The bolt has loctite on it.

I use the bolt for theft purposes, not to prevent the bag from falling off, but I have to think that having one of each is about as safe as you can get as far as a bag falling off goes....OTOH, I'm not worried about that either as my EGC has the bag rails.

I've got a '13 Road King, black, that I've removed the stock plastic saddlebags in favor of some leather bags. The old plastic bags are of no value to me so I'd be happy to sell them. They are like new.

Just another thought though a slim one. Was your bag unlocked? If so is it possible someone attempted to take them and got the fastener loose but then got interrupted or gave up?

Just letting you know that we have decided to keep our FREE U.S. shipping through the summer and have reduced the pricing on the Canadian shipping. USPS more than doubled the price of shipping to Canada to us, but we are trying to keep the costs down as much as possible.

Plus you have the HDForum discount link in my signature for all our products.

FYI - our BootShields are going to the plater today. Our new KickShoe is in the production process and will be back on the market within the next week or so.

AND big news - we are announcing this week our representation of a great GPS device that will help you know the location of your bike AT ALL TIMES! This covers all of the U.S. and Canada and also works on cars, boats, PWC's, etc. We should have this device for sale on our site this week!

Can the new ABS bags be fixed paint/body work?

Thanks.
Just realized that evidently you lost a bag with our SaddlebagSecure installed? Please clarify what happened.

By the way, we have had this happen to 2 customers in our 3 1/2 years of business. One realized as soon as he took off that he had not tightened down the bolts. The other could not remember if he had tightened down the bolts - so couldn't say one way or the other. In the 5 years I've had SaddlebagSecure on my bike, I've never had them loosen up on me and I don't use Loctite, though we do recommend it is anyone is concerned.
