Default Front wheel size

I have been researching some extended bags/fenders. Some indicate that they are made for 26"/30" wheels.

Other than looks what is the benefit of moving to a bigger front wheel?

Also what would it do to trail...would I also have to raise/lower the back?

I'm new to the bagger side, so I am trying to understand the ripple effect of longer extended bags...larger front wheel (or was this a recomendation just to keep from dragging the bags in the corners) and any other mods this would require.

to run wheel that size you have to cut and rake the frame out. there is alot of money and work that goes into that. do a search on here and thre are some good threads on it

You can run extended bags with your stock front. A lot of people get a bigger front wheel for looks, or to balance out the look with the bigger bags. It's all personal preference. If you stick to a 21" front wheel then there isn't much you have to do, other than a new fender. A lot of guys install a 1-2" lowering kit in front after installing a 21" to bring it back down to stock height. Once you get into 26"+ is when you need to do some serious work to get them to fit.
Other than looks there is no reason to go to a bigger front wheel. Some say it pretty much feels stock, others don't like how it feels at all, no one says it handles better.
Personally i plan on getting extended bags for the room, and i like how they look, but will wait to do the front wheel until i have no where else to sink money into (aka never lol)

you dont need new fender for 21. only if you go bigger you have to get new fender or raise stock fender

I like the look of the 21" but some of these at 30" look like wagon wheels from the old west.

Submitted is a picture of my '21 on my stock FL frame and fender. No modification necessary.

You can get a 23 on the stock frame (seen it done) but you will need a fender then. Anything above that, youre cutting and raking but I can tell you this; In my experience those guys don't ride for 2 reasons;1 the ride quality suffers when you go to even a "skinny" 21 vs stock, much worse larger and 2, they've spent so much in their bikes by that point they don't do anything but take them to shows anyway.

I'd rather ride...
