Default 2012 SG ??? Help!

I bought a leftover 2012 SG last September put 1000 miles on it,got the service done, and stored it. Got it out this spring, put rinehart true dual classics on it and the harley stage 1 air kit with an EFI download. I just turned 2300 miles on it. I was out of town last weekend and could only find 89 octane to put in. Filled it up and rode it home. I filled it back up today with 91 but I am noticing some sputtering when cruising at about 30 to 40 mph at 2000 RPMs. What is causing this? Was it the fuel? Is the range listed above just a bad spot for my parts and current download? Do I have some other issue?

Thanks

I run 89 in my limited all the time, no problems. You could of got a tank of bad gas, try some fuel treatment and another tank of newer gas, see if it clears up by the end of the next tank. You should not be runnin at 2K and below, it will lug your engine (not good for it.) If you twist the throttle and it hesitates/take a few seconds to speed up, you are lugging it. This will cause premature bearing failure over time. You want to always run over 2K. If some fuel treatment and the next tank of gas dont clear it up, take it back to the stealer and let them worry about it, its still new and under warranty. If you have put 1300 miles on her since storage, I doubt its the stage 1 you done. Good luck gettin her figured out.

Really doesn't sound like anything serious. My first action would be to try a fuel additive such as Seafoam or Z-Max. If I was really nervous I might even consider draining your existing fuel load first and refilling the tank with a fresh load. Really don't see any of your mechanical additions causing any problems.

2000RPMs is the problem. Open that baby up!

The dealer is telling me I need to put a real tuner in the bike and have it Dyno mapped to fix my issue. They say my bike is running too lean. But why did it wait 1300 miles to start acting up?

Confused on what to do....
I really hope it clears up with my next tank of gas.

Tighten all your exhaust clamps to spec. Make sure no leaks. Other than that a flash tune is not really going to cure every issue at every rpm.
Save up for a SERT and dyno tune it. My popping issues were tuned out by this method.

The dealer is somewhat correct on this as the download is a completely worthless money making scheme by the Moco. That being said there are tons of stage one bikes running real good with Xied's or Power Commander type products that just use a canned map. Will a dyno benefit the bike? Probably. Is it absolutely necessary? In my opinion no. I say slap some Xied's on there and keep the RPM's up a little try cruising around at 2500-2800 RPM's and see how your bike likes it.

Get the rpm's up to 2250 or more. Can't imagine how sluggish the bike must feel tooling around at 2000 rpm.

You are lugging that engine at 2000 rpms. Talk to your right hand and tell it that its okay to twist just a little more......try to keep the rpms up above 2300 and your engine will thank you. You also will find sweet spots in that 2500 to 3000 range that you will like. Anyway, just rev her up some.
