Default Am I a Tire Eater?

I am going on my third Dunlop 402 for my 2003 Ultra. They last about 6500 miles. On the first one I attributed that to practicing panic stops and over aggressive downshifting. Since then I have avoided panic stops, and blip when downshifting.

I check my air pressure every few hundred miles, about weekly or before a trip.
I keep the front at 38 and the rear 40. My front has 19k and has lots of tread left. I try to use both brakes at the same time, but maybe I am using the rear brake more than I think?

I do leave lights aggressively, as I like to ride in my own bubble, (and it is fun).
What are others getting for mileage on the stock D402s?

Most ppl I know are getting 10k or more out of the rear not sure why yours are wearing out so fast. I had 10k on my 09 and it still had plenty of tread left. I have 7.5k on my current rear Dunlop and it looks new...

About in line with what I got. The smaller tire on the 08 and down bikes just doesn't last very long. I tried Metz, Dunlop, Bridgestone, and Pirelli and got anywhere from 5K to 7K. Can't figure out how folks get 10k on the rear of the older bikes.

I think that number is a tad low, but I could have replaced mine at probably 8 k and instead waited to 10K.
That really is one area that should not be neglected.
I gotta new tire in reserve now too for when the rear starts to look worn.
Probably not a bad idea to change wheel bearings a little more frequently for the guys that have the newer style.

I did well to get 7k out of a Dunlop rear. I don't think your tire wear is unusual.

On our '02 Ultra we averaged just over 7900 miles. Most of that was 2-up and with a trailer.

Hmm. I think I'll tell my wife the only way I can afford to keep an Ultra is to buy a new one!

The people I know with the pre 2009 touring bikes only get 7000 - 9000 miles out of a rear tire. The frame change in 2009 really let the rear tire stay on longer.
